i have a standard n3ds, when you say "pretty stiff" do you mean if won't move at all? or can you still, with your finger, move it up .5 cm when it's clicked in place?
I want to know because having a slightly loose hinge would kill me, my DS Lite flops too much and I don't want the same to happen here.

I got the N3DS XL but I wanted the regular.

It's a buffer so the only pressure applied to the hinge is deliberate.

Has anyone else gone from the 3DS XL to the N3DS?
I really want to buy one but the N3DS XL isn't out til the 13th March in bongland and I want to buy one now before I go away for a month or so.
However, I'm used to the bigger screen size and I really enjoy it, not sure if I can downgrade.

Yes. And I'm so glad I did. I preferred my OG3DS over my XL in every way except the shell. The OG3DS was horrible to hold and the XL's smooth she'll was great. Shame the screens made the games look like crap on the XL.

See that's the thing I've held 3DS' and I can't see why anyone would prefer the smaller size, and I was wondering if it was different with the N3DS. The faceplates seem like the only positive on the N3DS and I'm really not that bothered about them.

The N3DS feels great. It's propbably on comfy levels with the DSi. The matte case feels great (newxl is glossy like the OG3DS)
Size wise it's perfect. I hated the bigger screens as it made the games look worse. I had a 3Ds before my XL so I went from sharp to bigger jaggies.
Some people prefer the XL and I'm not one of them. I'd recommend popping into game as they have demo models.
All I can say is the N3DS feels and runs great. I've finally found the right 3DS for me.
Also the faceplates don't bother me Tho them being matte is great.
I feel like one of the few who wants the XL over the regular. Do Americans mostly just want it because they can't have it?
