Fuck oblivion for ruining Morrowinds awesome clothing/armor system.

I dont know why bethshit insists on simplifying each game more and more. The people who bought previous games want more complex and in depth mechanics.

We went from Helmets, left pauldron, right pauldon, left gauntlet, right gauntlet, cuirass, greaves, boots, shirt, pants, belt, robe/skirt.

To

Helmet, armor, greaves and boots
>>
>>284025789
Its hard to make characters not look like they are level 67 in WoW with so much customization.
Bethesda went for less armor pieces so characters would look better.
>>
>>284024262
Hilarious greentext. May I suggest laughingwhores.jpeg next time? :^)

WC3 is still my GOTY of 2002. Morrowind immersed me, but WC3 defined what custom games and campaigns should be in a game.
>>
>>284025913

I dont know what youre smoking, there was more than enough clothing variants to make your character look good.

Exquisite robes pretty much went with everything except glass armor.
>>
>>284025994
If there are 9999 types of cloth the chances that you will happen to run into a set that looks good together is very slim.
You will look like a clown for the first 2-3 hours of the game and the player will drop his controller and go play something else.
>>
>>284025789

Morrowind's was complexity for complexity sake. Sometimes things are better streamlined.
>>
>>284026240

go to bed, todd.

RPG's arent meant to be streamlined, the entire point of them is having complex worlds and mechanics that let you play as any "role" you can think of, while supporting your style of gameplay.

Just look at alchemy in morrowind compared to skyrim. You had a bunch of random ingredients you need to sample and experiment with, with 4 different sets of tools for refining and experimenting. It made you feel like an actual alchemist.

compare that to skyrim where you just mash whatever ingredients have the same effects over a simple bench.

B-b-but I want my left pauldron to be purple silk and my right pauldron to be a horse skull over black iron!

I disagree with you, I think that having armor be separated into at least 5 slots is perfectly acceptable.
>boots
>gloves
>helmet
>chest piece
>pants
Thats the bare minimum. And you can add cloak and pauldrons, for example.
Having asymmetrical stuff like wearing different gloves or boots is a bit over the top. I dont care if it sort of makes sense realistically, its a chore gameplay wise.
>>
>>284025789
>we

It's nice having the option, but it doesn't ruin the whole system. Armor in Oblivion still looked good, for the most part. Are there not mods to fix that anyway? (I haven't looked too much into Morrowind modding scene)
>>
>>284026606
I'd prefer the witcher style of alchemical ingredients, where you harvest them from supernatural beasts as well as herbs, and where you use the ingredients based on their active alchemical quality rather than their name.
You can have 3-4 swamp herbs be able to replace each other in recipes, giving you different power for their particular quality.
Like herb1+herb2 gives you 5 health per second over 15 seconds, while herb1+herb3 gives you 3 health per second over 25 seconds, where herb2 and herb3 have the same alchemical property, but different concentration.
>>
>>284026632
>implying

>LArm

>Chest
>Helm
>Pants

Foot armor is so inconsequential that it literally did not exist, for most of history.
>>
>>284026828

That's still alot simpler than morrowind.

You ahd all these quality modifiers from your tools, alchemy level, and ingredients, there was a SHITLOAD more variety in the potions you could create than anything from the witcher
>>
>>284025976

Minus the harvesting from "supernatural" creatures. And if you remove the ability to taste ingredients to find what they do, and sprinkle some scrolls and notebooks around alchemy huts and on relevant NPCs so you can buy recipes to compensate for that, you will have a great alchemy system.

>Being simpler doesnt make it worse.
It really does, it takes away from the accomplishment of actually creating your own potions, which (if unassisted by guides) is quite difficult. Like another anon said before, it is like what one would imagine an alchemist would have to go through in order to craft a potion. Something that fits perfectly, what with the game being a ROLE PLAYING GAME.

I make it a point in my games to try and make my character asymmetrical so I love it when it's made easy. limiting your armor so you can't mix and match as much is annoying.

I know exactly what an RPG is, and simpler mechanics stifle the amount of ways someone could play the game.

People who would melt down their armor DIDN'T WEAR FOOT ARMOR. Even rich people usually didn't wear foot armor. Your feet are literally the last part of your body you are going to buy armor for.
Head, then Torso, then arms, then legs, then hands, then - only after everything else - feet. If every other part of your body isn't covered in metal (which, hint: it almost certainly won't be) then neither will your feet.
