They did the whole shocking plot twist thing in KotOR, doing it again would have been retreading old ground, and have gone against everything the story was trying to do.
Also, Kreia isn't a "bad guy". You can argue that she is morally unjustified, but she is never a villain.

Brotip, it's called TSLRCM. Get the version of it WITHOUT the droid planet. The vast majority of the stuff TSLRCM adds was stuff from the disk but the droid planet was clearly unfinished, required a lot of amateur work (including voice acting) to "restore" and significantly changes the events of the vanilla game, unlike the rest of TSLRCM.

Obsidian made Mask of the Betrayer (as well as the OC and the amazing Storm of Zehir) and as Black isle made the Icewind Dale games.

Obsidian is simply a successor studio that has pursued the sort of projects they've always worked on, and many of the games they were handed to work on like New Vegas were handed to them because they had something to do with prior entries in said games or single handedly put certain studious on the map (Bioware) hence KotOR II and NWN2 and Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir.
