Monster Hunter is the single deepest, most challenging, most skill-based game ever created. There is not a single other game in any genre that comes close to the level of skill Monster Hunter requires.
This is why Monster Hunter threads are the best, most intelligent threads on /v/. Only the smartest, brightest, and most patient people post in them. Essentially, the very best of humanity posts in them.
Conversely, the only people who don't like Monster Hunter clearly don't have the skills to handle its depth. It is too hardcore for them. That's okay though. Games like Halo exist for people like them. Monster Hunter fans are too good to hold grudges.

The new fast swing combo with the Switch Axe sword mode is too good, especially with the challenger skill criticals all the live long day

You can relatively easily change. To be honest, most of the upgrade bits you collect will just be sitting around unused so you'll have a half completed weapon of the tier you're on sitting around almost all the time.

try out everything in the beginning and choose what you feel suits you best. you need to get good with at least 2 or 3 weapons and you stil can late game but you may not that easily get a good weapon for that class later on

there is litterally zero penalty for switching weapons, in fact a few weapons dont work so well solo so I would encourage you to choose at least 2

I just join friends or pubs online and hunt whatever people want to hunt. Then at the end I'll go and see what's the best weapon craft/upgrade at the time and go with whatever weapon that happens to be.
I just hit HR4 and I went from hammer to gs to lance to charge blade and back to gs.
People like to make it seems like it takes time to get used to a weapon, but you'll learn all you need to within a few hunts unless you suck ass. Low rank is pretty easy anyway.

I did it , /v/. I just deleted my 50 hour character because I didn't like the name. It's a liberating feeling.
But now the name I was so sure I wanted doesn't seem as good as I thought, and I'm afraid to make a character in case I mess up again on the naming. Now I just want my old character back to hunt some monsters
