They are both equally the same for the appropriate time period. There's a thing called "tastes". I lived through both of Mario's stylizations. He hasn't changed at all. He's still a happy jump man. Maybe you find the color pencil version of him creepy or old. It's just an illustration of him. If you're talking about the game graphics then sure I can say that NSMB series looks really bland a lot of time. Not 'plasticky' though. That shit was only in the GCN era really when all the character models and shit were really shiny. The new Mario games all have very warm, soft looks, shit is hardly plastic.

If you want to argue that today's Nintendo has less confidence in kid's gaming abilities and have casualized many of their series too much (ex. Zelda) then I could agree.

But as for the artstyle stuff this is bait image is beyond stupid.

Like it holds up Twilight Princess as an example of "good" classic grimdark Nintendo design while ignoring fucking Wind Waker which came out before it. Not even to mention The Minish Cap, ALLTP, OoA/OoS, all of which were very bright and colourful.

The 3DS remakes I can understand. I wasn't a fan of much of their lighting decisions. WWHD was a positive change though. Everyone over-exaggerates about the bloom.

I'm not sure how anyone can like the graphics of Sunshine over 3D World. Those weird realistic textures in the middle of a cartoony game didn't mesh very well.

Also who the FUCK likes the graphics of Brawl? Literally everyone I talked to agrees that both Melee and smash4 look miles better than it. There are tons of mods for Brawl with brighter colour palettes. there's no fucking point of putting detailed jean textures on a fucking cartoon

It's all about the atmosphere. Ocarina of Time is a pretty dark game. People keep saying "b-b-b-b-b-but Majora's Mask is the dark Zelda", but the mood in OoT was very dark. The ominous music that plays when talking to the Deku Tree right before it dies and you have to leave the dark secluded Kokiri Forest...

The remastered 3DS version killed the atmosphere of OoT.

My only rule when making that comparison was to include roughly one version of the character for every generation.

I was the most iffy with Mega Man since they're all technically different incarnations of the character, rather than a single consistent guy, but since Link does the exact same thing I figured it as worth including. I did make sure not to throw in Zero or the characters from ZX though, since they're not actually the blue bomber.

Flagship developed OoS, OoA, the GBA port of AlttP/FS, and Minish Cap. Flagship was owned by Capcom, much like Clover, but they were not Capcom.

I can agree with Mario, Link, Pikachu, Samus, DK, Megaman, Pac-man and Simon.

Crash's 3rd model was a step up from the former, but didn't deviate so far like it did with the 4th iteration.

Sonic was OKAY at his 3rd iteration, if just because he was stepping into the world of 3D. It was a constant downward trend after that.

Spyro was okay all the way up to his 3rd (arguably one of his best appearances) until he got punched in the schnoz for his cameo in Skylanders (that's basically all he's there for).
