I would highly recommend Tera and Maplestory.
Tera if you want 3d with high graphics and great art style, quest driven leveling, action combat, more character creation but less classes, and not-so flashy skills
Maple Story if you want 2d with great art style, cute look, somewhat actiony, less character creation but more classes, and really flashy skills for most classes.

I have 12k hours dumped into GW1, though people argue it's not a MMORPG, it had more life in it and interactivity than MMOs today.
The most recent MMO I came to love, I found out it will be shut down permanently in 3 days.

Well, that's your opinion, and i respect it.
But i think that maybe you are not giving it a fair chance to grow in you and catch the spirit of those games.
Both of the mmos i recommended in the thread, Maplestory and Tera, both have huge playerbases, are very lifefull, have great mechanics and nice communities. (Tera community is kinda pervy sometimes tho, but they are nice people).
Also both of them are very fun, but i think i love maplestory a little bit more right now!

Tera is terribly slow and in my opinion the worst possible attempt of action combat. It doesn't feel like action combat to me, it feels like spam left click and slowly watch your character perform an attack in slow motion. I get what they were going for, but it's not my cup of tea, I do like Blade and Soul's twist on action combat, but 300 ping is horrible to play with.
I also don't like the combat in Maplestory and honestly don't see the appeal in it.

World Tour Fishing, it's a fishing MMO, I didn't think something like that would work, but it's surprisingly good and made me fall in love with it. Most recently, GW2, which i duck in and out of every few months. Definitely interested in the expansion though.
And dungeon fighter is launching a new beta in March and i love that game even though its the standard korean grindan shit. Im countin the days.
The only thing I like about MH is being able to unlock new characters quite often without spending money. I miss when unlockable characters were more of a thing and this brings it back.
Apart from that, it's a mediocre take on the genre, and I would never recommend spending money on it. It's getting to be about time for me to go back to it and play for a few weeks until I get disgusted with it and quit for half a year.

How old are you? Like everything you just said is completely retarded. Ignoring your first comment, Maplestory is clearly a dying MMO that can't even support their own servers during x2 events (which is why I am not currently playing it) and players are dropping like flies. Even the huge servers barely have the FM full anymore. Maplestory is shit now that Nexon officially given up on updating the game anymore and hope Maplestory 2 will somehow do better.

A game doesn't have to have fast paced combat to be fun anon. I think what Tera did was just right. sure, it's not a fast paced combat, but the combat is done in a way that without playing your character right, you are certainly going to die - exactly like it should be.
Maple Story is just fun as hell. sure, the combat isn't the most actiony in the world, but i think something about how it actually feels when doing it feels so incredibly right that it becomes fun as fuck.

It does in my opinion, I can't stand slow paced games since it feels like I'm playing in slow motion and I'm constantly waiting for something, which is why I couldn't play FF14 either.
Tera when I played it also suffered from the problem of no-one wanting to talk. It just felt like a single player game where I slowly kill BAMs because their attack pattern is too predictable. It just felt like I was grinding to max to do dungeons in a game which I didn't enjoy the combat, so I put it down, I've tried multiple times to enjoy it.

Maplestory is not a dying mmo in any way. "players dropping like flies" you say? that's just not the case anon. it's still one of the most populated mmos right now - i myself see henesys FLOODED at all times in Global Maple Story. "nexon giving up on it" you say? you are clearly wrong again. they are still hosting events and clearly care about the game.
As the following chart in pic related shows, maple story was one of the most profitable mmos of 2014.

Terrible engine, had a delay on everything which is apparently fixed.
It's literally a less polished WoW with a Star Wars skin over it, to the point where even the skill's descriptions are the same as WoW's.
Was P2P but went F2P with many restrictions in place, like you can't hide your armour, sprint restrictions, can't get extra hotkey bars etc.
