How dark are the dungeons?

They really aren't that dark, but they still haven't added the darkest ones.

>>
Fuck this game
It's not fair, everything is ridiculously weighted to aid the enemies.
>Play with full torch
>Get "Surprised" and have my order shuffled every other fight
>Play with 0 torch
>It's exactly the same, except more depression

Enemies have obscene crit rates and evasion stats too. If you see your move has a 70% chance to hit, don't even bother, it actually means a 0% chance to hit.
Then literally every action I take gives my heroes some horrific disease and I have to waste time and money to cure them, only for them to get that same fucking disease again 5 minutes later.
>>
>>283676448
Looks like someone has a bad case of legitimate complaints.
>>
I've beaten all of the bosses and almost gotten every class to resolve level 6. Is there any word on when the rest of the content is coming?
>>
>>283676448

The problem is that those issues technically aren't game-breaking.

You have literally an infinite number of guys to just send back down there. The ones you grew attached to might die from time to time, but you're still able to progress if you're smart and persistent enough (from what I've seen).

But full torch makes it so you surprise your enemies, not the other way around.

I don't get why people don't get that you clearly aren't supposed to get attached to your heroes, that they are all horrible people with horrible personalities and traits delving into horrible dungeons housing horrible things, before they run back to town and "relax" by doing more horrible activities

Such is life in the dungeon, before you fight the hag remember to make sure you have at least 3 classes that has some kind of ranged attack.
>>
>>283675689
Is that a problem? I've always liked "sickdark" and I'm actually pleasantly surprised to see it being done well. Just wish Neil Gaiman would write a "sickdark" game though.
>>
This game is pretty cool but it does have one thing that really bugs me. Obviously it's drawing on roguelikes, or roguelike-likes or whatever people call these not really roguelike games with roguelike elements now. But generally in roguelikes you get fucked when you do something, you choose to drink a potion not knowing what it will do and get fucked, you choose to press a switch not knowing what it will do etc. You can generally not take the RNG risks if you don't want to and try to rely on things you know to be reliable.

Here you can get massively fucked in ways beyond your control all of the time, which is fun some of the time because dealing with the shit that goes down is a big part of the appeal, but it can get frustrating.

just buy some consumable stuff and don't bother looting anything unless you've got the item to counter the trap, because it will always fuck you in the ass.

as for the other stuff, yeah. they made it "difficult" for the sake of being omg2hard5u and the game is pretty retarded in a lot of ways.

>>

that might work except for the fact that once you get any amount of dosh and upgrades, the games terrible balance shines even more. seriously, even rank 1 niggas with just one upgrade on weapons/armor makes the game laughable in comparison to when you start, and the rape train only gets worse. as soon as you get that stuff and actually get a party who stays alive for 2-3 maps, they're fucking unstoppable, and that's without using bounty hunters who 2 shot bosses.
>>
>>283678512
Reminds me of ffx's long ass attack animations. Wound up avoiding a lot of useful attacks. I just want to get more than 4-5 in half an hour. 5 minute fights is reasonable for a average encounter but not when 1/3 of it is lengthy videos or talking.

Exactly. The game makes it so that your high level heroes dying doesn't matter, since you can just hire new ones and slap upgrades on them and they are just as good as the old ones and you go right back to fighting the shit that killed the old ones.

The characters in this game are as disposable as the gold and items

>The Order of Saint Lazarus was a hospitaller and military order of monks that began as a leper hospital outside Jerusalem in the twelfth century and remained associated with leprosy throughout its history. The first monks in this order were leper knights, and they originally had leper grand masters, although these aspects of the order changed over the centuries.

>The order remained primarily a hospitaller order but it did take part in a number of battles, including the Battle of La Forbie on 17 October 1244 (where all of the lazar brethren who fought died) and the Battle of Al Mansurah on 8–11 February 1250. The leper knights were protected by a number of able-bodied knights but in times of crisis the leper knights themselves would take up arms.

There were pretty significant rebalancing. Hellion stacking is shit now, GR is monstrous crit/accuracy machine of murder when stacking raw damage increases, and Jester has always been the same, broken as fuck in the right comp (0 light crit rushdown sweeping).
>>
>>283685225
grimdark is not the same it's close and shares some of the same elements but it's not the same.
Let me put it this way
Boletaria - gothic fantasy
oppressive architecture some sickly enemies but not really crazy. Lots of death but the really as much sickness or insanity. Other than the dragon the enemies are mostly humanoid and not that scary.
Stonefang Tunnels- idk fantasy
I'm just gonna skip this one
Tower of Latria- sickdark and grimdark
Dark, filthy, lot of insanity and mental anguish. Not so much plague but there's a horrid swamp filled with grotesque and contorted figures.
Shrine of Storms- grimdark
Grim place it's mostly undead but there's a cleanliness to it's runes. It's bleak and largely colorless.
Vally of Defilement- sickdark
Insanity, and plague are the defining attributes of this place. So much so you feel relived to just foot on dry ground. The architecture alone makes you feel nauseated and uneasy. But the enemies are mostly humanoid but baring obvious signs of disease.

>So every zombie game ever is sickdark?
no. Most zombie games are set in a semi realistic modern environment. Largely wrecked in what we can assume was the initial outbreak. The environment itself is not of much particular interest. Where as sick dark the environment perpetuates the fear of illness. It's often an obtuse fantasy world with features that seem like they're contrived by a ill mind. The enemies themselves are often organic to the environment. Zombies are not.

No one seems to remember that the term "artificial difficulty" wasn't a real term until it started being spouted around on here after Dark/Demons souls. I swear I never heard it before then and now its caught on.

"Sickdark" might not be a real term, but I actually think it describes these sort of games rather well. They are dark (obviously) and kind of have a sickly, dirty quality to their styles.
>>

While RNG can hurt you. I 've never had a point where I thought it screwed me over. Unlike what >>283682795 says, RNG does not tend to invalidate your strategy, just make it tougher or easier.

What most people tend to do is grab the basic shit they need for the one dungeon run and don't account for the unexpected.

Take some extra food, its cheap enough. Maybe a couple of more torches. Figure out which area you are going to and figure out the side items that will disable the traps on those particular interactables. The money you get for a full explore/run is more than enough to make that back.

For example the forest almost always has beast carcasses lying around and if you have the item that removes diseases you usually get around 12 food just from that to waste healing your party up if they need it.

Also try not to have a party that is so reliant in only one spot. Grab crusader's lance strike in case you get surprised so he can get back in the action without wasting turns.

In fact I complain that it gets too easy once you upgrade your armor at least once and the vestal gets the next level of her healing abilities.

I don't have the issue but I might just be lucky or something. The mechanic is supposed to work in that certain way, the RNG just does pull some bullshit. Which is annoying if it happens. >take some extra food

it's still retarded that hunger is completely random. it doesn't matter if it's cheap or easy to get more. when you can run one dungeon and not eat for 6 rooms and then do another where people are treating it as a buffet and downing a meal every room, there is a problem. i don't find the game that difficult since like you mentioned with armor, your party turns into gods after some time. hell, i don't remember the last character i had to recruit and i'm over 30 weeks in, but the game feels real shit all around because of things like that. why there is no turn indicator blows my fucking mind. it's bad enough that the enemies always go first, but you don't even know when you get to do your shit.

I know there's dorf fort adventure mode, but the lack of graphics kind of makes the solo adventurer bit kind of boring to me. Normal fort is great though.

I may just start another campaign in darkest dungeon if anything I guess.

You can still somewhat do this by stun locking an opponent and using buffs heals on everything else :D just hope that you don't crit the enemy with your stun and kill him by mistake.

I'm just too lazy to get updates.

The fact that he's using his healers as a tool and toying with a creature of cannot be like some sort of strange sadist.

Besides. I thought your characters wouldn't attack a dungeon with enemies to weak for them, and even the you're still in a dungeon full of dangerous shit twidling your thumbs with a dangerous enemy

Where are some other games with characters that aren't entirely under your control that have some opportunity to develop a bit of their own "personality" through performance? Darkest Dungeon, XCOM, Dragon's Dogma, etc.

No you can't
Enemies gain stun resistance that goes up to 100% every time they get stunned.
