I've got six. Only really cared about getting Shulk at first, but I've started collecting sorta. I found a Sheik earlier while out looking for Majora's Mask 3D and a Mega Man, and just ended up picking it up on a whim since I didn't want the trip to be a complete bust. I feel like console shilling has gotten out of hand recently and amiibos managed to slip by. Most game stores have a Skylanders/Disney section now and Nintendo just want a piece of the pie. Mostly indifferent. I own three, and I bought them because I really liked the characters. Never had any intention of collecting all of them.
The only strong opinion I'll ever have of them is if Nintendo ever goes completely overboard locking away meaningful content behind them. Like the Spinner in Hyrule Warriors. The weapon itself is pretty meh, but it's a step in the direction I don't want to see them go.

I honestly don't mind the Spinner. It's one weapon that offers an alternative playstyle for one character, in a game with around 10 characters and like 15-20 weapons. The ones my friends own look like cheap toys, they're rather expensive and adding DLC to them is incredibly stupid considering they won't be available all the time.
I also haven't been keeping up with any news regarding them. If you can buy the DLC they give in the games without having to have the amiibo, it sounds great for collectors and characters that don't get much (or any) actual figurines, since it is still an official product.

I'm not interested in buying them, but I don't have a problem with them in general. I think things like the Smash bros implementation are cool, or using them to unlock cosmetic stuff.
However I think there is potential for them to be used in extremely shitty ways. I dislike the idea of having actually gameplay content locked behind them, because then you're dealing with having to buy these toys that you might not even want to get the "complete" experience out of your game. They haven't done anything super egregious yet, but the locked weapon in Hyrule Warriors and the Fire Emblem characters in that S.T.E.A.M. game are kind of pushing it to me.
I like them as collectibles. Characters like Captain Falcon and Wii Fit Trainer will never, ever get merchandise ever again.
That said, it is so absolutely soul-draining to get these in stores. The only ones that are ever in stock are Mario and Peach. I just want Dedede, dammit.

On the other hand, this "interaction" is limited to unlocking on-disc DLC and simple features that might as well have worked fine without any additional accessories (amiibos in this case). Also most of them look completely awful.
So in the end, amiibos are pretty damn shit. It's a shame, since they COULD be something fun.

I thought they could've been pretty cool as a concept when they were first announced and Smash used them for something semi-unique (memory cards basically).
Then they announced the other games and how most of them just used amiibo as cosmetics unlockers, like Mario Kart 8. Stopped caring for them at that point.
Have a strong distaste for them now that they're actively hiding gameplay content in games that aren't even out yet behind them (see Codename STEAM).
Had they just been figures and not been tied to any content, I may have eventually bought a Palutena or Mr. Game and Watch if either of those happened simply because those two will likely get another type of figure and I really like them. But now I'm a bit put off by them.

Kirby Rainbow Curse handles it well. That is, assuming you can get the powers the amiibo give you elsewhere in the game too. They offer you an in-game effect on demand, a small boost if you want it, but presumably you can get those same boosts elsewhere in the game.
As well as that, they could be used to hold things like time trials from Mario Kart 8 that you could take to your friends or something.
Neither of those two require them to lock content behind the amiibo, while still giving the amiibo a function.

I hate the very idea of content for upcoming releases being locked behind crappy figurines. It has all the failings of regular DLC, but now I also need to worry about managing to find the right amiibo for a game. From what I've seen on here half of the amiibos are constantly sold out, and I'd need to compete with scalpers and collectors and the like to get my mitts on one. Never been one to decorate my place with figurines either.
