Flipnote Hatena existed because while nintendo was making Flipnote, Hatena (pretty much the japanese equivalent of tumblr) went to nintendo and offered to host the content for them, as well as moderate it.
Aaron was the CEO of the flipnote division of Hatena. They ran the service from 2008 to 2013.
Apparently, Aaron ended up running into a huge lawsuit with a music firm, and had to start cracking down on copyrighted music. When he realized they couldn't afford to have a youtube tier music identifier, they eventually started paying music firms. When Hatena saw they where bleeding money, they called nintendo and killed the deal
and thus was flipnote hatena.

Posting one of my favorite Flipnotes ever.
What I love about flipnote is how creative you can get with a very simple animating program. Even if toward the end of the dsi flipnote, it became pewdiepie, memes, and brony heaven, it still had it's fair share of talented animatorsRIP Gizmo, and the other awesome animators.
