I tried playing RS3 but it's such a mess.
The interface is extremely confusing and you get bombarded with windows. RS2 had a really nice and simple interface with everything being on the right and you didn't have to stop playing to access it, I don't know why they thought a change was necessary.
I would probably still play but the runescape world is so damn empty, and full places everywhere was one of the main things which made the game so great in the first place

Its pretty cool, its like from 2007 but with some new content that fits the spirit and style of 2007 era RS. I think I would describe OSRS like if Jagex never got rid of the wildy, free trade, and never added the HD update. It feels like a different direction that the game could've taken in an alternate universe, and this second there are around 30k players on.

That's the beauty of runescape though. There wasn't any story or narrative dictating the kind of player you needed to be to enjoy the game. It truly felt like a vast and open world and that you could do anything you wanted at any time. Whether that is being a mong at the gnomeball field or grinding your skills to get 99s. Its an experience I've never had in any other game besides rs, its truly unique on that regard.

Not really. Rs has always had a decent backstory if you bothered to read about it, or if you actually read betrayal at falador lol.
Recently they have kind of shoehorned the gods in more than they should have in my opinion. Zamoral, saradomin, and guthix always seemed like actual gods to me. There was mystery surrounding them and we were never 100% sure who they were or what they were capable of. The god wars dungeon added to this as well.
Nowadays all of the gods are just hanging out on the surface world and literally killing each other.

The end is as unsatisfying as you'd expect.
The new city has a lot of content sure, but it makes skills even easier to train, and also it's hideous. Make's me sad that the new main "hub" of the game is a stark white empty void in the sky, while all the old cities with their charm are pretty much empty.

I feel the reason for that, for me at least, was that I did a LOT of just dicking around. The only time I really trained toward something was because I needed a skill for a quest or I just really wanted to wear some better gear.
Grinding was less important than running around, exploring, playing minigames or whatever.
Also, factor in that training now you probably know what you're doing to maximize xp gain, movement is much easier with free teleports to pretty much goddamn anywhere, and most all skills can be done with a "Make X" option now (the one thing I don't really have a problem with, too much clicking was a bit of a pain in the ass)

The GE murdered any sense of community that the game had. No longer would anyone haggle for items, or have to actually work to sell or buy items. No meeting new people and getting crafter contacts.
Prices dropped with the GE being added, since it became really easy for people to see the prices of items. Monkfish high? SELL SELL SELL. Need to buy something? Just go to the GE which was just one giant fucking store and buy it for the cheapest fucking price offered.
Then there were the fucking merchers who destroyed the damn economy.
The GE was one of the worst things to happen to Runescape and was one of the signs that Jagex wanted the game to be more like WoW.

For me it was actually Dark Warrior's fortress, since that's where my clan's "headquarters" was. Just sitting around, waiting to see if there was a good fight.
There usually wasn't, and we were awful at fighting. But it comfy in a way. It felt safe in the building with your clan friends in the middle of the dangerous wilderness, even though you really weren't all that safe, and that one asshole probably would wind up teamkilling you with ice burst.
Barring that, I really liked the Tree Gnome Stronghold.

Legend's capes were great. Extremely cheap with good cape stats. They were behind the Lava Cape, Skill Cape and that one cape from the Volcano people, Obsidian Cape I think it was. When I ventured into dangerous areas I wore the Legends Cape plus a prayer armor set that I can't remember the name of.
Is it me or are the newer graphics just shit? I prefer the look of Oldschool.
If you ask me, Oldschool looks perfect for java. If they want to make the game look so much better they should switch to a new engine instead of trying to make crap look shiny.

Me and my friends would hang out in the basement of the blue moon inn on w102. At all times of day there was at least 2 people there. The place became so well known that people just started showing up and making friends.
Really wish i could put together some kind of reunion for old times sake. Met a lot of cool people in that place.

Oldschool graphics are simplistic and stylized, rs3's they tried to focus on enhancing the graphics but it all just looks like someone vomiting on a palette and called it done.

I had some true bros in Runescape.
We made a small clan together and claimed a house in Varrock as our base.
We would go questing, do holiday events and explore the world. We even created a group website for some reason. I remember we took a group photo at the top of the church in Ardougne. I wish I still had those photos.

On a completely different note: Anyone know if the old developers of Runescape made guidelines for whoever took over now in terms of lore? I actually kind of like how Zaros was handled for the most part in the recent quest thing, considering all the mystery and suspense they had with his character up until this point. I wonder if that was the work of new writers, or did the people who originally made the lore have a hand in it somehow.
