>Humming Simulator 2014

Why is this game so good?
>>
>>278229269
I liked it because it told the story during the game instead of wresting control for some 2deep4you crap.

The battle system was pretty good and the final boss has to follow the same rules you do
>>
>>278229730
I loved the final boss having the same powers as you

It wasn't hard, it wasn't easy for me. It's was an equal match and made me love it even more.

>>

If you liked Bastion, you will love Transistor.

I say love, because I felt in love with the game, not the characters, but the game as a whole.
>>
it's my 2014 GOTY

Game is fucking amazing. The ending made me cry little bitch tears
>>
>>278230143
it would have been better if the ai was competant and realized when you'd done a feint
>>
What are good ability combos?

Right now I have Invis with the backstab passive, crash with no cd and that's it.

The music is god tier. Anyone has their taste.

>worse gameplay

10/10 Story

10/10 Aesthetics

10/10 Voice work

5/10 gameplay

Did I care? Nope.
>>
I found it good but nothing Oscar worthy.

Combat always feels like a chore in these games. It was interesting for an hour but the enemys felt very copy paste for the next 4-5.

The story is interesting enough to a point. But is vagueness the new 2deep4u? I feel after Dark Souls its just a marketing ploy to get people to talk about games.

Biggest kicker for me was the ending. If Red just commits suicide to go into the Transistor with her Husband why didn't she just do that at the start? The entire game is actually pointless on reflection. Made me feel like all that effort and re-tries was for nothing

Definitely get the dog with upgraded backstab. That hits like a truck.

The dash with a few upgrades seems to be a good spammer as well
>>
It wasn't good at all though
>>
>>278231539
It's a good fight, both you and him can use the same skill setup and have to follow the same rules; It's a match of tactics instead of brawn.
>>
>>278231452
>If Red just commits suicide to go into the Transistor with her Husband why didn't she just do that at the start?

I can explain that.

Red didn't knew what happened, why she lost her voice, what was the Transistor and what was going on. She looked for Answers. Discovered the Camerata was responsible, what was the Transistor and she destroyed the Process.

In the end when she realized she couldn't bring her lover back, she decided to join him in the Transistor. She was the only person left in Cloudbank.

The story is explained by dialogue and a few insights are given on the backstories of the people absorbed by the Transistor.

Also it's pretty obvious that Cloudbank is a virtual world.
>>
Also do you get anything good from the Backdoor area if you complete it?

Again with a game where the combat is the weakest part the last thing I fancied doing was sandbox time trial runs
>>
I like it so far but the sword talks way too much. Doesn't even have a soothing voice like the Bastion narrator.
>>
So disappointing you mean? Gameplay got stale as fuck after just a few fights, the game is 2 hours long, humming/flourish does literally nothing, and there was only like 2 bosses, the last one being the only good one. Thankfully the music, voice acting, and art style were all top tier, but Bastion still was a better game.
>>
>>278231765
You know its the same VA right?
>>
>>278231539
It gets you pumped

Who gets to go first?

How about... me
>>
>>278229269
>dash behind enemy
>backstabbackstabbackstab
>turn ends
>hide behind a wall till its recharged
>repeat

I want to like it, honestly, but the game feels too easy when you plan and too hard when you don't. Also the soundtrack is way overrated.
>>
>>278231835
Well technically the humming controls the Transistor at the end, that's how you rebuild the bridge
>>
>>278231838
>its
Well he sure didn't do nearly as good of a job in this game. I had to turn down the voice volume whenever the sword is tripping balls because he just fucking talks non-stop about nothing. It doesn't sound like he's telling a story, he's just rambling on about everything.
>>
>>278231878
>but the game feels too easy when you plan and too hard when you don't

There is those enemies that don't let you use turn() in the late game, but yeah they could have forced the player to keep changing process and tactics, like in the trial runs.

I liked that you could chose your own difficulty as you go.

You could just put more dampeners to make the game feel harder.
>>
>bought transistor because i liked bastion
>play it for an hour then uninstall it because it's boring as fuck and easy

It doesn't even matter that the game is pretty, the music is good and the voice acting is great. If the game has fucking boring gameplay, It's not really worth playing.
>>
>>278231271
I liked going with as much area damage as I could. I went with Void + Purge which then comboed into Spark + Ping + Crash or for maximum area damage Load + Bounce + Jaunt.
>>
>>278232078
>Changing functions
>Put more limiters
>>
>>278232082
>It's not really worth playing

Depends on the person.

Some like a good story over mediocre gameplay. Game is only too easy if you want, you can put limiters but yeah it's not hard.
>>
>>278232082
how do people bash transistor for gameplay but then turn around and praise bastion.
Bastion had literally nothing to show for in gameplay departament, it was pure shit and repetetive out the ass, atleast transistor had a glimpse of actual tactical gameplay with interesting combos, i for one like the idea of trampling your enemies.
Also it got so old repeatedly taping shift to dash through the entire game of bastion
P.S. the games naration gets old after 20 mins
>>
>>278232494
>transistor
>tactical gameplay
It's about as tactical as a game of team deathmatch in call of duty
>>
>>278232494

>repetetive
>taping
>naration

So you're twelve, then.
>>
>>278232552
It's Tactical gameplay. Your analogy doesn't change this fact.

Classify it right for me, no analogies.
>>
While this game was decent, it was probably my biggest disappointment of the year. It's not a bad game, it was just that it's predecessor was a superior game in just about every regard.

The thing that irritated me most was the combat system halting after every encounter to do a rundown. It just broke the flow of the game too much for me.

I really enjoyed the game, but had hoped for a game to surpass Bastion and was let down.
>>

Do your summoned dogs randomly blow up on you?

I had the summon 2 dogs ability but they always blow up one after another shortly after summoning if no enemies are around.

It's annoying too because the cast time is so long so if I wait until I see an enemy to cast it normally I'd have taken a few hits by then.
>>
>>278233147
Honestly I don't remember fights being that long.

1) Summon Dog
2) Enter VATs quicktime mode
3) Move self and dog to two enemies and backstab until you run out of AP
4) Hide until you can repeat
>>

>>
>>278233263
Wait for a sale. The experience is over in about 4 hours so not worth much money.
>>
>>278233147
Dogs don't stay summoned when there's nothing to fight. Besides, the fights are fairly short when the dog is involved anyway. Dog barks, everything in the room causes everything else in the room to suffer a resonance cascade that results in explosions, fight is over.
>>
>>278233263
Honestly, no. It's a slightly worse Bastion and that game is worth no more than $15 burgerdollars.
>>
>>278232348
>you can put limiters

It's the classical:

>This game is too easy because I've read guides/asked for help on how to use a optimal configuration to make the game easier

I don't get and never will get this attitude. You can make any game harder or easy by your own will.

I remember playing Dead space with only one gun because of the achievement, and boy does that game becomes much more harder.

If you want a harder game, put limiters on yourself. In this case, Transistor gives you some if you want.
>>
>>278233034
i could have, but then remembered i have better stuff to do and i don't actually have any respect for anyone on this site.
>>
>>278233263
It's quite short for the price tag. I thought I was in the middle of the game and that it was really starting to get good and then it was over. It's good, but I wouldn't recommend paying thirty dollarydoos for it.
>>

>>
I have bastion and I didnt like it.

Why should I play this
>>
I bought the game, beat it in 4-5 hours, and felt no urge to play NG+.

Overall it just seemed like a weaker game than Bastion. The gameplay was more complicated and customizable, but easier and less interesting. The overarching plot tried hard to be deeper than Bastion but it leaves a lot of things unanswered and doesn't really come together to form a cohesive hole. Soundtrack was about the same quality.
>>
>>278234025
The words in >>278232569 are all marked as wrong by the default spell check in Chrome, and I imagine in other browsers as well.
So unless you are only arguing for the sake of arguing, you should concede this and stop.

Speaking of the difficulty curve, you're supposed to put on the limiters right as you get it right? I enjoyed Bastion, I'd say it was a solid 8/10 but Transitor felt more like a 6 or even a 5 to me.

The setting, art style and music were really good and the story had an interesting premise, but the way it was told was pretty bad. I just thought the man in the sword was nowhere as good as the Narrator. While the Narrator did a pretty good job of building the world and the characters, The Man pretty much did none of that and left most of the lore in optional profiles. Also the ending didn't really hit me as much as it did in Bastion (the ending where you saved Zulf was just GOAT).

Gameplay wise, I'd have to say both are average at best.

I still prefer Bastion's story and its execution, probably because the story was more optimistic with the hope for a rebuild in the evacuation ending and the walk after I chose to save zulf was goat. The game is good because its an archetypical example of "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts"

The combat system was nice and simple enough in concept, and it had variable difficulty, if anything they failed to explain that better.

>game too easy
Use limiters
>what a joke
Use more limiters
>hmmp I am better than this
Use all limiters at the seame time champ.
>baby's first "tactics"
well, its all the game has to offer, and was honest at that.

This game system is all about the "unforseen" effects of combining stuff, some combos were lame, others were rather powerful.

Yeah, the game offered you combos that work so well in average that it didnt incentivate you enough to explore more. Thats one of the few game flaws for me.

>overrated OST
That depends on tastes. The first stop I made at the beach I was blown away by how a humming song could be so relaxing that made me want to hear it for hours.

A game with simple enough mechanics, everything else is beautiful, maybe I seen this formula with Journey, and it works wonders.

The combat system was great, I had a lot of fun messing with all the combos you can build.
But honestly, I 100%'d it in 10 hours and I really don't see any reason to ever play it again. Why can't you at least replay the sandbox challenges ?
The game has very nice graphics, colors and animations, but halfway across the game I got really tired of the 2deep4u story and especially of the dialogues. Characters talking in circles, not finishing their sentences... That really pisses me off. Also the background files for the various functions, as well as the general character design, really push too far on the special snowflake side.

The country is never explained.

It's probably the real world or death. They can never come back after they go there.

The country inside the Transistor it's not the real one

>for example, Asher Kendrell telling Red that he would, "See [her] in the Country" before committing suicide. Royce Bracket also compares The Country to the Transistor, remarking that: "You can get in but you can't get out. How about that! You can get in but it's a one-way street, a one-way road. It's like the Country. You don't just go for a visit you go for good."

It's okay. Maybe a pretty good game on its own, but the wasted potential really kills it for me. It starts off very strong, but nothing ever develops in ANY aspect. The gameplay, the story, none of it ever amounts to anything. I think the fact that so many people praise the story is indicative of pretty low standards for vidya storytelling, or just that the game really perfects the illusion of depth.

It's definitely worth playing, but just think about it critically before you rate it.

There's no fucking story, though. It's a really interesting setting, but nothing ever happens in it. Red just goes back and forth without accomplishing ANYTHING and then the game ends. The "story" is really just you walking around and reading wikipedia entries about Cloudbank. There's absolutely no substance to the plot.

>Red just goes back and forth without accomplishing ANYTHING and then the game ends.

She was in a quest of self discovering.

Did we play the same game? Did you read the backlogs? Did you payed attention to dialogues and OVC terminals?

Red didn't knew what happened, why she lost her voice, what was the Transistor and what was going on. She looked for Answers: Discovered the Camerata was responsible, what was the Transistor and she destroyed the Process.
>>

There IS a story, but it takes place in the aftermath of a climactic moment in the larger story, which you also learn about through the duration of the game.

also a good example of how to write gay people in

Asher and Grant had the same last names and committed suicide together - you might even think they're related for a bit until it clicks

Sybil is also pretty obviously gay for Red once you read a little more on her as well

Just simple information you learn through their census data through their commands that isn't absolutely stated or shoved in your face

Royce is also amazing even if he is Nicholas Cage

She lost her voice because they had control of a lot of aspects of people who had allowed themselves to be part of the census system, and took her voice away - alternatively, some say it's because she was touching Blue when he was hit by the Transistor, and since he fucked up the Transistor and made it do a hard reset Red was affected and lost her voice from it. The Process is the man behind the man that controls all the aspects of Cloudbank as voted by the citizenry. It teleported because it just went haywire for a bit after trying to absorb and process someone it had no census data on. The Process went berserk because the Transistor was being actively used by the Camerata to keep it in check at all times, so the resultant loss of the SuperUser and switch to Red and it not being the Cradle anymore made it go nuts. And they did try to get the Transistor back, Cybil's remaining thoughts are all about wanting it back - but the thing is, without it or the power of the masses, they literally can't do shit to take it from Red because they've lost all the power they once had with it.

>What happened?
MASSIVE SPOILERS

It's all in the backlogs and Dialogue. Roy explain most things near the end.

The Camerata wanted to put Red inside the Transistor. Sybil was the one that chose Red, because she was infatuated with her.

Red's secret lover tried to save Red and he himself got absorbed by the Transistor.

All went wrong after they lost the Transistor.

> How did Red lose her voice?

The Transistor absorbed it.

>What's the Transistor?

"The key to the city". It's how the Camerata was controlling the Process. They build it by reverse engineering cloudbank's source code.

>but what the fuck IS it?

The key to the city, the way the Camerata invented to change cloudbank's code.

>The Transistor didn't even touch her.

The Transistor Scratched her.

>Why did the Transistor teleport away from the Camerata?

The Transistor has some pretty weird powers, he probably tp himself after he got awareness trying to protect Red

>Why did "losing" the Transistor cause the process go berserk immediately?

Because the Transistor was the only thing controlling the Process. The camerata created the Process.

>Why didn't the Camerata try to get the Transistor back?

They tried, Sybil fight. Also they were trying to fix the virus. They found a solution, you end the process before fighting Roy.

But they know. Roy explain it.

Cloudbank is a True Democracy. It's a city where the citizens vote for everything, even what the weather should be.

The Camerata were tired of everything changing.

"When everything changes, Nothing Changes". Roy says it. He says that people vote for a new bridge to be build in the place of a park, them they vote for a new building in the place of the p bridge then they vote for a park in the place of the building. The Camerata belives the people doesn't know what they want.

They make the Transistor as a form of bypassing the democracy.

"Cloudbank is the canvas and the Transistor it's brush."

Again, is everything in dialogue.

I thought worked really well for transistor. Made it feel like you were holding the sword.

Most games fuck it up pretty bad though. Holy fuck Warriors 3 bugged me so much with it.

It's sad that the future will never look that cool. Everything is classy and elegant in an 1920's way, but futuristic and flashy too.
Why reality has to be so boring?
>>
>>278242936
Tell me exactly what you don't get.

You said they know very little about the Transistor, but they know. The Transistor its Cloudbank's brush, that's it. Nothing more.

The world that exist inside is not really the country. It's just the place the people absorbed go to.

Fashion goes in cycles.

Sometime in the future, Neo-noir clothing will be considered fashionable again.

I don't think the transistor is artificial, Royce says that he found it on the outskirts of the city.
Way I read it: cloudbank is a digital world. Whether it's created or if tech is just like magic to them, I don't know. The only place outside of cloudbank (real world or maybe some kind of digital afterlife) is 'the country'.

Because of its digital nature, damn near anything can change at a moment, the city's completely at the whims of the masses, like a hyper-active internet forum. The camerata studied the code the underpinned the 'natural' mechanics of cloudbank, and discovered what was equivalent to admin privileges in the transistor, which they intended to impose some measure of stasis and order on the city.

The transistor doesn't actually give absolute power, though, rather it allows them to absorb the influence that certain people have over the city and bring it under their power. That's why they hunted down a bunch of famous and popular people to store inside.

The process was the equivalent of the source code, the invisible mechanics that lay beneath the motion and movement of cloudbank. The camerata brought them to the forefront to make people appreciate the act of creation more than the creation itself, something that Royce, a former architect, was a bit pissy about.

Adventure game with a band of Optimistic band of misfits.

And as you progress throughout the story your band of misfits becomes smaller and smaller as more and more of them die until only you the player character is left and all you can do is remember your friends as you continue on alone till you fall yourself on the last mission against never ending waves of enemies.

I like sad endings.
