I also use my character as a sort of male power fantasy so I like to make them look cool, handsome, and suave and then put them in some sick ass armor. There are some very specific moments where I'll choose female, but I go male in every multiplayer game without hesitation and in RPGs I almost always go male. I just can't get into my character if they're female because I see them as an extension of myself and I can't imagine myself as a chick.

For example, if certain game settings have classes that are most frequently associated with a certain gender due to in game lore/faction reasons then I'll pick whichever gender goes with that class.
