I am a developer at Konami currently working on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Ask me anything.

Does anyone still care about metal gear?
Really?
I honestly don't know how they keep churning these things out, since there hasn't been a decent one in over a decade
>>
>>277329391
Are guards more alive then they are in GZ?
They didn't really interact with the environment every much.
>>
>>277329541
Lots of cool stuff, there are going to be two versions. The standard collector's will include a Big Boss statuette, an XOF and FOX patch, a tiny Mother Base model, and some ingame content.

>>
>>277329852
Yeah. GZ was rushed towards the end and one of the things that didn't get finished was the AI. They aren't psychics anymore; They radio in like MGS2 which can be stopped. Reflex is also gone on Normal and Hard (4 difficulties).

Wouldn't they have announced it by now if it were coming out that soon? I'm expecting it no earlier than June, hope I'm wrong though.

Will PC release be simultaneous?
>>

Mgo

How close are we talking?

Implying you played all of them, how would you rate mgo3 in juxtaposition with the predecessors
>>
will we be able to make our own vagina bombs
>>
>>277330231
We've already stated that. There's a third area you haven't seen yet; the Himilayas. Each area is huge, give or take 80-100 times the size of Camp Omega. Overall it's massive. The PS3/360 versions are thankfully running better than GZ did. We spent some time getting it optimized for the older hardware. It's not 60fps but it's playable.
>>
>>277330245
I'm bored and doing this amuses me. Most people won't even read this post for example - they just want to believe. Might delete this later though.

We will be releasing The Phantom Pain on Steam early access and We agreed with Gabe Newell (Gaben as you guys call him) to add hat extras to Team Fortress 2.

>>277330376
PC is simultaneous, yes. And think about, we've been developing for a long damn time. Kojima doesn't want the release announced so that, when it does come, it'll sneak up on you.
>>277330452
MGO3 is great. There's more emphasis on stealth, but I don't personally consider as good as MGO2.
>>
Also, Kojima is sucking my dick as I type. Feel free to ask him questions too, he'll do his best to reply.

You guys actually predicted that already! It ends with Big Boss confronting Zero over Eli and the other child (Solid). Zero actually shows some of his old self, and simply tells BB to kill him, thus protecting Snake from BB. The post-credits final boss is Solid Snake.

How "realistic" will MGSV & MGO be gunplay wise?

>>
Yeah, I have a question abut Konami itself. How the fuck are they still around? Capcom is in deep shit and they should be, but at least they make a lot of different games (even if the quality has been lacking)

But konami? They make a MGS and a SH every once in a while and that's it.

>>
>>277331460
>Well, it's the same as GZ. The guns feel fun and realistic.

I didn't play GZ. All I know is that they used fake guns. So, can you elaborate? Like I said, I don't expect ARMA or even Insurgency/Red Orchestra 2 in terms of realism. But I'd like to know where it fits between milsim games and twitchy arcade shooters.

For example, lets say I have an assault rifle. Can I expect to kill someone in 2-5 shots with semi-auto? Or will full auto bursts be the expected way to kill enemy players in MGO?

An amalgamation in Big Boss's mind as he slowly loses it. He'll hallucinate others, and even himself as Skullface, most notably Volgin, who indeed returns. I mentioned above that you fight him in Metal Gear; I'll leave it a secret who it truly is.

Even slavs could code better AI in between squatting sessions with a tiny budget.

>>
If real just post any kind of proof.
>>
>>277332680
The new one, like I said above. Metal Gear HAL, designed by Huey under the impression his son was killed by Cipher. That's the one you saw in the trailer.
>>
I'm surprised you guys don't have many questions about the story.
>>
>>277332895
cuz ur full of shite OP. post proof pls.
>>
>>277332617
There were a myriad of ways the player could interact with them. Guards interacted with each other in their attempts to find and kill you. They felt alive, not like the automatons they actually are. In MGS4 they even had emotions that you could trigger which changed up their behavior entirely.

Also there's a lot of fun easter egg shit you could do with them, especially in 3.
>>
>>277332895
Tell us, mystical OP, is PP Big Boss actually Big Boss?
>>
>>277333064
I can't. I'm at home. Our badges are kept at the office, and all I have some Konami/MGS5 swag, which anyone can have.
>>
>>277332895
well story spoilers are in fact spoilers. where as gameplay is less so.

here ill ask a story thing..

is the medic part of the story? since people are hung up on him. Who is ishmael? who is the third guy in the hospital next to kaz and boss?
>>
Is there any industry gossip about Kojima and Smash Bros? Did he try to get Snake into Smash 4 or anything?
>>
>>277329742
Someone owns the only system that wont be getting MGSV hum?
How's that WiiU working for you?
>>
>>277332895
How long is the story?
why does BB trust Ocelot?
Why the change from Punished Snake to Venom Snake?
Will you play in the story as someone different than BB?
What things Kojima liked so much in GTA V and did he wanted to add them to PP?
How does BB change from good guy to bad guy?
What's the story behind blood face and burned village in the Nuclear trailer of PP?
>>
>>277333097
You play as Big Boss most of the time, but it's an inconsistent narrative. The idea behind Venom and Punished Snake is that these are the shattered pieces of Big Boss's mind. Venom is the crazy terrorist and Punished is the man we saw in Snake Eater. It's never stated outright; but if you're something messed up, people will call you Venom and if it's something good people call you Punished.
>>
>>277333163
Then I can't take your word as legitimate.

>I-I'm legit guys, I just can't show you right now.

Stop.
>>
Why the fuck did you guys charge so much for GZ?
>>
>>277333096
I really doubt that you understand what makes an AI good. Half the things you said is just a standard thing for any type of game that's alike.

>In MGS4 they even had emotions that you could trigger which changed up their behavior entirely.
Behavior as in?

>Also there's a lot of fun easter egg shit you could do with them, especially in 3.

>>277332790

;_;
>>
>>277333192
The Medic is not mentioned. Ishmael is an MSF soldier that wants revenge even more than Miller, for reasons that you'll see ingame.
>>277333346
30 hours, roughly. He trusts Ocelot because he saved BB at the hospital (Which was in Berlin, fun fact!) As for the name, see above. His official "Bad guy moment" is towards the end, after Miller decimates the Diamond Dogs and goes into hiding in Afghanistan. Big Boss activates Metal Gear to try and kill him, and murders countless civilians in the process, and the village was where he was hiding.
>>
>>277333484
I apologize for not being in touch with your arbitrary standards that you dress in terms like objective. The AI was good. It worked well, scaled well across difficulty levels, and provided a challenge that always felt sensible. Unlike in MGS5 where when one guard spots you, the entire base is alerted. In previous installments, they'd have to radio each other. Things like that made sense. It's why the ai was good.
>>
>>277333429
Why do you think? We need money.
>>277333846
Yep.
>>277333619
When Phantom Pain comes out, it'll be released as DLC for Phantom Pain, at 20$.
We're working on some MGS stuff for Vita. Stay tuned on that.
>>
>>277333484
>Behavior as in?
You can get various darts for your tranq gun which affects their emotions. You can enrage them and make them go on a killing spree. You can make them depressed and unwilling to fight. Don't remember the other ones.
>>
>>277332701
>The people you extracted. Glaz and Palitz are high-quality early game soldier if you extract them, and you'll start with Kojima on Intel if you did his mission.

So, I plan on 100%ing Ground Zeroes.
If I save Glaz and Palitz during one mission but later re-do the mission for S rank by killing the, do I still get them?
Does only the "best" playthrough per mission matter per save data?
>>
>>277333846
No, you'll probably get something for doing the Ground Zeroes mission on hard, and that'll be it.
>>
Is Solid Snake playable?

Then a minute later they'd forget that you even existed. Great AI, great gameplay, great stealth.

>>277334082
That's somewhat interesting, but from a gameplay concept, not impressive AI concept. That is, if AI is enraged, the AI goes berserk and attacks teammates. If AI is depressed it just ignores this and that and sits on its ass.

Also, pretty funny how you literally know everything about the game, the devleopment, the script, the characters, the plot.

>>277335436
How about Miller? . I'll detail his fight if you like.
>>
>>277334536
It's arbitrary, whether I'm a programmer or not isn't relevant because the entire point of AI programming in a game is to make the experience for the player convincing/challenging/fun/etc. What's under the hood, which may or may not be technically impressive to other experts in the field isn't nearly as important as what the player experiences.

I'm going to assume you're a coder. If you were designing AI for a stealth game, Which would you prioritize? Impressing other members of your study with intricate, consummate coding, or impressing the people who will be playing your game with a solid gameplay experience?

>Then a minute later they'd forget that you even existed.
That's to make the game more accessible. The goal of earlier MGS titles was not to achieve realism, but to provide an arcade like stealth gameplay experience. Considering that the amount of time guards spend in search mode is variable, I have no reason to believe that whoever programed the AI in MGS games couldn't have made the search state permeate if they wanted to.
>>

>the entire point of AI programming in a game is to make the experience for the player convincing/challenging/fun/etc.
Well then how do you exactly excuse the AI in MGS?

>Which would you prioritize?
Why do you think I have to prioritize one or the other. Both work hand in hand. The only problem is that if you make it overcomplicated, you're bound to have some bugs. Not that you can fully avoid them anyways, but the point is that you should expand on your own work, but not to make things overcomplicated.
>That's to make the game more accessible.
There's a word for that. It's called casual.
>Considering that the amount of time guards spend in search mode is variable
Depending on the difficulty mode, yes.
>I have no reason to believe that whoever programed the AI in MGS games couldn't have made the search state permeate if they wanted to.
Of course they could, if they hadn't added the timer to begin with, they would just be looking for you forever when they get triggered. It's just that it's a shitty mechanic for casuals, so I don't see why people even defend it.

We've been throwing back and forth an idea for Metal Gear Liquid; doing missions with MGS1-era Foxhound, basebuilding Shadow Moses. We aren't doing anything with the Boss, I'm afraid. It's also possible we'll get a Philanthropy game set between 1 and 2. We haven't started developing anything yet, so who knows.

Yes, it's different from what you've seen in trailers. You only get infinite fultons on Easy, and even then they cost 300 GMP a piece. You said earlier that there's a bit of a moral system in the game, eg Punished / Venom Snake depending what choices you make.

Anti-cheat countermeasures, after the horseshit that was MGO version 2 with people able to do some wicked horse shit with aimbotting and major exploits, even if you can't confirm an anti-cheat, I want to at least know if there is going to be any ongoing work to help patch exploits and it isn't going to just ship and be as-is until the next expansion/DLC for it is announced.

The controls are identical to GZ, but you can change them of course, even to a more Snake Eater style scheme. It's not a moral system either, it's more like an easter egg. If Big Boss is doing something bad in cutscenes or otherwise, people call him Venom, and vice versa.

>Well then how do you exactly excuse the AI in MGS?
In every MGS game (perhaps excluding 5), the guards do provide fun and challenging gameplay. It isn't very realistic, but it's not supposed to be.
>Why do you think I have to prioritize one or the other.
Just taking into account that you attack a player for not understanding the coding of AI.Why do I need to understand how it's working to enjoy it? I don't. Just as one doesn't need to be a mechanic to appreciate the smoothness and handling of a certain vehicle.
>Depending on the difficulty mode, yes.
No, on any difficulty mode it's variable. The 99 timer isn't moving in seconds. Depending on how you alerted the guards, it may move faster or slower.
>Of course they could, if they hadn't added the timer to begin with, they would just be looking for you forever when they get triggered.
I would have preferred that, but I understand why they added the timer. It was simply implemented to make the game easier. I don't see how that makes it bad though. On higher difficulties, getting spotted is still very punishing despite this, considering the search time, the guards improved awareness, and Snakes low health.

Except they don't. The only thing that makes the game fun is the score system at the end, to measure your e-peen. Otherwise everyone would constantly run around the idiotic AI and just hide for a few seconds.

First off, you never mentioned the player. Secondly, which is more of a personal thing, but usually only stupid individuals aren't curious as to how things function or work.

This is irrelevant. I only posed that scenario as an example to help you understand why how it works is not important to most people. Here's perhaps a more consumable example. I do not understand the inner mechanics and spring placement of my bed. Yet I understand that it's comfortable to lay down on. I do not care how it works, only if it works.

It seems that I'm not following you.
>I only posed that scenario as an example to help you understand why how it works is not important to most people.
Even then, understanding how the AI works can actually help you beat it, that is, if the AI is actually challenging.
>I do not care how it works, only if it works.
This is another problem. That is more of an ethical question and why everything is stagnating. I'll just say again, if the AI is challenging, you'll try and understand how it works, of course not in all detail, but still will try and understand how it functions in order to beat it.
>We're getting into this area where we throw around subjective terms at each other, anon.
I agree, but at the same time I gave a logical explanation as to why some other people might find it challenging, which is the score system. Try and replay MGS and tell me what will concern you more when you're spotted by the AI.
