Gaunts Ghosts from front to back is pretty decent. Starts out fairly okay with a really crunchy midsection and in the last triplet 'Traitor General' is really solid.

Most of the Horus Heresy is decent. Lightning Tower, Prince of Crows, anything by ADB standing out. Also Angel Exterminatus and Scars are fantastic. Primarch's shit talking and fighting each other.
Fifteen Hours is one of the most beautifully written books I've ever read, a great read. Night Lords trilogy is pretty good, blood reaver is a little slow but still pretty good.
Word Bearers are slow but the first one is amazing with the addition of the Elysians. Just started the Macharian Crusades books and the second one features a shit ton of DE and an amazing intro from the point of view of the DE.
Ciaphas Cain are really good reads as well. Any story.
Dead Men Walking features the glorious Death Korp fighting Necrons and it ahs a very depressing ending which is always a plus
Storm of Iron and anything about 40k Iron Warriors is hnnnghhh. I suggest the Iron Warriors Omnibus. Based around Honsou and it is amazing

When I read the novel, I expected to read about Abaddon's adventures in the the Eye of Terror. I did not expect I would be saddled with Khayon and his gang.

As for the Heresy it's still mostly filler, doesn't look like it's going anywhere soon, but I definatly suggest Scars. Very well written, and Jaghatai and Yesugei and Tamu are very cool characters, as well as a fucking sick fight between the Khan and a guy I don't want to spoiler at the end. Betrayer was also good, features some actual progress, it details the Shadow Crusade led by Lorgar and Angron, with Kharn as the main character and Argel Tal also.Blood for the Blood God starts here
Vengeful Spirit is also progress because it details how Horus got the chaos armies behind his back.
Unremembered Empire is just basically The Night Haunter's wacky Macragge vacation, is ok but you don't really need that one.

Went from a good rts with a bright future to some weird as fuck moba esq thing. Multiplayer when I was playing it was terrible just mashing the retreat button and caping then decaping points in a ring around way also the maps were utter and complete shit. Campaign was extremely lackluster and aside from angel forge very boring especially retribution which was fucking terrible. The whole game is a disservice to the lore and setting sure the small scale and focus on individual troops works for space marines and Eldar but literally every other race it falls flat.
They should have taken it in the opposite direction instead of focusing on small scale tactical battles they should have thrown caution to the wind and branched out to a larger scale. Think Company of Heroes with its command trees and not supreme commander but an inbetween for them. Cover destructible envirements but increased size

The coolest thing for me about the Orks is the Psychic fluff.
They are the galaxy's greatest latent psykers. By thinking something that is painted red goes faster... it does.
By thinking something painted yellow explodes bigger, it does.
There guns don't work if a Guardsmen picks them up, but because the Orks believe they work, they do. There is a an awesome part ina short story where a lone guardsman finds an Ork gun on the ground following a battle - he crawls over to it, bleeding to death
He aims it at the nearest Ork and tries to fire it, but nothing happens. Then the ork turns around and see's him - and as soon as he does, and the Ork becomes aware of the gun it fires and kills the Ork.

On a related note: An Inquisitor/Witch Hunter 40K game where you take up the role of an Ordo Hereticus member tasked with gallavanting about the Imperium, weeding out corruption and slaughtering Pskyers, Tech-Priests, Mutants, and all sorts of other twisted Warp-ridden creatures with an arsenal of seething weapons.
Including melee combat with Power Swords and the like, and ranged Inferno Pistols. Stealth would be optional, but rewarding, as would successful interrogations.
