I'm running PCSX2, emulating games at 4x native resolution then scaled back down to 1920x1080, FXAA on (which doesn't look half bad although I suspect it from causing some blur issues in FF12) at a constant 60FPS and can go up to 120 FPS if needed.
All of this is linked to a 43 inch TV and I'm playing comfortably in my chair with a ghetto PS2 USB controller.

There are 2 distinctions of Slim. The ones that have a gloss strip in the middle of the top can use freemcboot. Later models that have a glossy square over the part of the top that isn't above the DVD drive can't.
That said, I have a fat ps2 with a hard drive, and it ended up being such a pain in the ass to actually transfer games to the hard drive to play (which is horrendously slow going even over ethernet rather than copying from the disk), that I ended up just using a latest model slim and swap magic.
That was when I bothered to use it at all, at least. Now PCSX2 isn't perfect, but it's good enough for most games that the upsides far outweigh the downsides.
