It is, but I actually read Last Wish and then Blood of Elves. I got around to Sword of Destiny after Baptism of Fire. It's just short stores like Last Wish. Nothing essential but some nice flavor text and character intros.

I'm kind of late to the party but I just started playing the first game today. It's alright, but can someone please tell me it gets better? I'm pretty early in, just doing the outskirts stuff, but so far combat is god awful boring with zero depth, conversations bounce back and forth in quality (they seem overall well written and I'm guessing the flaws come from translation issues), the pacing on everything is so slow (constantly getting these press LMB five times to win fights followed by a needless 2 second cutscene before back to playing, why can't that just be dialogue?) and the visuals aren't really much to write home about.
Maybe my expectations are too high. After seeing /v/ hype the series up so much over the years I went in expecting to be blow away. Instead it seems like a solid 6/10 which /v/ usually would shred apart. Does the first game improve at some point? Does the second game hold up better?

I have an i5 2500k and a GTX 780, I hope I can reach 60fps at 1080p without lowering too much stuff.
I'm hoping they have a better AA solution this time around. Ubersampling in 2 looks a bit iffy and made the framerate drop too much for my liking, but downsampling from 1440p and using SMAA works pretty damn well.
Goddamn I'm looking forward to this. I just played through 2 again recently, it's even more fun than it was the first time around, now that I tried to play a little bit smarter.

I can't seem to get mine to OC to more than 3.7Ghz without my PC bluescreening after a while.
Granted, I haven't overclocked before and my PC knowledge doesn't really extend that far beyond basic shit, so I could just be doing something wrong.

From my limited knowledge, it seems to me that the GTX 970 is a pretty great buy right now if you want bang for your buck. You might not even need that good a card depending on how well they optimize the game; I'm pretty sure CDProjekt has a decent track record when it comes to their games running well on a different range of hardware.
A decent i5 CPU would be enough I think. Lots of people think they have to get an i7 for gayman because muh higher number but as far as I know the only difference between an i5 and an i7 is that the i7 has hyperthreading, which no games use anyway.
Try asking around in PC building threads and look up the prices at whatever PC hardware site is best for you. Logicalincrements can be handy but make sure to do your own research.

I don't know about assemblio, but the site I buy from (komplett.no) tends to have some really good sales from time to time, so I've kinda made it a rule at this point to not buy a GPU/CPU unless one of them is on sale, which can really save you a lot of money.
If you live somewhere komplett ships to, you might want to check them out if assemblio don't have a lot of decent sales.
Building a decent PC can be a bit of an investment depending on a number of things, but I honestly think you more or less make it back in the long run concidering steam sales and the fact that most PC games are just a lot cheaper than console games.
