Actually DMC and Ninja Gaiden did do well. Depending on how you define well. For EA they would have pumped millions and millions of dollars into genre such as this and expected the game to sell no less than 5 million copies. However I doubt any of these games had a bloated budget.
It sucks that most cancer doesn't like the genre but it's a lie to say these games are unsuccessful. I remember seeing that NG2 sold over a million copies.

I think what he meant is that it felt like a lot of people that bought and championed the game were doing so to either deliberately be contrary to the upset fans or the series or just to see what all the fuss was about. It's not like it would have been a huge influence, but there certainly would have been a number of less copies sold, and realistically probably a lot less critical praise, if there hadn't been such a stink raised during its development

If it was just a brand new DMC but Dante had the proper design and didn't act like Shadow the Hedgehog, it would've been praised by fans if not being a little too easy, but it would've been an enjoyable game.

If they truly make a 5th DMC game (a true sequel) I think they should let it be the last one they make since Capcom has gone to such shit. If not then I think they should just pass the torch to Nero (who I liked). Finish out Dante's story so they don't ruin him like it's a guarantee they will. But anon, like DMC in relation to it's reboot, looking back in relation to the Lord of Shadows games, Lament of Innocence wasn't that bad. It just tried too hard to be a clone of God of War, which was itself already a clone of DMC.

It makes me sad this and DMC4 are it. Bayonetta is cool, but it's not the same. God Hand is actually my favorite game, but it's not the same. Metal Gear Rising was an awesome experience, but it's still not the same.

However, given your position, I would say go for it.
DMC3 is better than 4 only because it doesnt feature all the backtracking of 4.
Keep that in mind, DMC4 has a bitching everything regarding combat and atmosphere but the single player loses a lot because of the backtracking.

Half the time they don't even take damage and I have no idea how to efficiently take them down barring DRI, which I can't do on Nero and which also sometimes does zero damage. Are they occasionally invulnerable even while out of electric mode or something?
Also, I can't find a control configuration where I can constantly charge my gun with Nero to save my life. What's a decent control setup for that?
