Before the MLP videos he made something called Wacky Game Jokes 4 Kids which never got more than like 100k views per video. It's great to make stuff just because you enjoy making stuff, but when that's your income, it becomes necessary to try to pander. I think Max does it in an acceptable way. He doesn't sell out his comedic integrity, unlike this Racist Mario video, while at the same time still making stuff that people will want to watch because it features characters they like.
I like Wacky Game Jokes, but it can be a bit hard to watch.

If you look closely, Zone is actually really very good at what they do. Emulating very different art styles and making flash animations with a lot of effort.
Why can't there be more modest creators with at least some effort to make the quality great? There needs to be more people like The Brothers Chaps, Yotam, and ukino (although I'm starting to change my mind about him)
