Oh ok. I like the Battle Frontier but it's not the main reason why I picked Emerald.
Gen 3 just has something special about it that I really like and Ruby and Sapphire were already quite good. Emerald just added a lot of great little things and I loved playing it after having played Ruby since I could now capture the whole weather trio ingame. Emerald also has a great main story (your father is an arena leader, Troy references, sadly he wasn't champ) and some very interesting locations that I have great memories of (volcanic ash!). Emerald just felt really comfy and surpassed the already great Ruby and Sapphire.

yeah, i think it was a lot more interesting the TWD but the s1 finale falls off for me, whereas the s1 finale for TWD was the highlight. it doesn't have as much feels as TWD for sure, but the overarcing plot and the characters are much better designed. normally I'm not really interested in graphic novel style games but the plot for TWAU really does it for me. but then again i'm really into noir style detective games in general
