Really? I mean, I really enjoyed the game. I spent 200 hours playing it after all, but I don't see how it could be in any way considered essential.

If RDR doesn't deserve to be on there, then neither does Sleeping Dogs. RDR is a much better game.
I would definitely have Crusader Kings 2 and Total War: Shogun 2 on that list, which at the present seems to completely lack strategy games of any kind apart from Frozen Synapse.

1 is pretty bad and other games improve on it.
They added strafing with LR, animations are much faster, Boost system was made much more useful, cheaper resting costs, abilities are more balanced, and probably more I forgot.
