They're 13 dollars.
And they have direct competitors that offer better quality at a similar or lower price point.
They're new at it is not an excuse either. Activision practically founded the market and they didn't have huge QA issues like the Amiibos.
The simpler characters can get by with their sculpts like Mario or Yoshi, but they still suffer from poor paint apps and splotches. The more complex characters just have QC issues all over the place.
A lot of this has to do with the fact that these toys are based on renders that were never meant to be actual toys. You end up with a lot lost in translation when you attempt to down scale and mass produce a high quality render. If Nintendo weren't so fucking sloppy and actually put some thought into the designs of these things then they wouldn't be having issues.

The figures are a good idea because they has always been a demand for figures of Nintendo characters(and Smash Bros trophies from Melee onwards) with Amiibo some characters like Fox actually get some figures.

Actually they do work with multiple games, the Skylanders toys are cross-compatable amongst games in the series, you can use your old figures whenever a new game comes out. Same with Infinity.
In any case it doesn't really matter because compatability between games doesn't increase the cost of amiibo production. NFC is pretty near universal.

Okay I collect some Kamen Rider Crap. Some of those toys use RFID chips and you can get them for like $7 easy if you go for the "capsule toy" versions which I'm gonna go ahead and equate to these figures quality-wise. I know comparing a small coin (which is probably about 3/4ths the size of an amiibo base) or an even smaller ring to a full on figure isn't entirely fair, but the point I'm trying to make is that you can sell these cheaply and not skimp too hard on quality.
Furthermore what is that "good ones cost at least 100 dollars" shit? You mean figures? I've got a Toon Link Nendoroid, brand new, and it was only about $40 and that's after shipping. Again, I know comparing a figure made for collectors and a statue made for children isn't fair. Look at the kid's action figures they can get for ten bucks at walmart based on power rangers or Xmen or whatever. They're larger and you can actually do shit with them. They're about on par quality wise, and that's not a compliment to either mind you.
