So today, 11/11, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, turns 3 years old.

Let's talk about this game /v/

Did you like it?
>>
>>271476754
Yes

>>271476754
No.
>>
>>271476754
Maybe
>>

I liked it because it was immersive, had options (but not so many you could lose your mind) and had other wacky combinations (fists of steel lmao)

The main storyline was about the right length, the major storylines were okay and the side stuff was enjoyable

The only thing that really sucked was the amount of copy/pasted dragur dungeons they had, and the DLC was somewhat underwhelming

Weapon/armor scaling is also a problem, but not the end of the world. It was by far the best game that came out that year, but not 10/10 material

Plus, if you disagree with anything I just said, you're welcome to modding the fuck out of it and making the game -literally- whatever you want, and theres definitely something to be said for that
>>
It was shit
>>
>>271476754
it was the most disappointing pile of dogshit I have ever played.

holy fuck. i remember the shitstorm on /v/ like it was yesterday. all that genuine hype before the backlash.

fuck i'm old

I remember how everyone here loved it during launch week

All those threads with "holy shit, this game is incredible"

How times have changed
>>
The other thread was nice till some faggot started posting CP.
Now this one is already dead. Dayum shame.

Shame the game still sucks but it's a nice sandbox for that stuff

Skyrim was good for the first hours, but then you start to realize how fucking hollow it is, especially how shit and weak the wyverns are.

God yes, and I kind of hate it for how well it does what it does, at least on PC.

See, I, like a lot of people, had my first exposure to the elder scrolls at Oblivion. Back on my old 8500GT(whooping half gig of ddr2 vram), the game ran like butter, and getting into the modding community really amazed me. So many ways to make an already interesting game incredible. I went back to Morrowind, tried it, liked it too, but not as much, and so when Skyrim was announced I and my roommate who had started with Morrowind, we collectively lost our shit.

Then the game came out.

I don't remember going to class or work that week. I know I did, but all I could think about was getting back to my computer and delving further into the game. I played the shit out of it, finished all the main questlines, and then started again with a modded run. I'm now on run 8, maybe 9, and the game still hasn't lost its charm. There's so many things that they got right, it's amazing. The subtle exploration music, the stellar overall sound design, the grandiose environments, the crafting, it was all solid, and when augmented with mods, even the trademark meh combat could become something really amazing and visceral. Like all Bethesda games of its nature, it's a solid base for a plethora of mods, enhancements, tweaks and revisions. The only major shortcoming I can lay on Skyrim is that like Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 3, and Oblivion, the full experience is realistically PC exclusive, and I would put forward that if you played it on console, you haven't really played the game proper.

My favorite metaphor is that it's like a huge puddle, and Morrowind is a cistern. Morrowind has little on the surface, but incredible depth. Skyrim has a great deal on the surface, but minimal depth. It's still very fun for what it is, and I've logged an embarrassing number of hours in the game.
>>
>>271480487
What is that mod anyway?
>>
>>271479353
I don't remember anyone liking it the first week, I think you're making shit up anon. I clearly remember people complaining about the magic system, lack of armour slots and shitty Thieves Guild.
>>
It was a fun game. But, beyond that, it was a crazy experience.
Waiting in line past midnight, below freezing, for hours. Felt like I was preparing my body for even harsher winds and great colds in skyrim..
>>
It was okay.
>>
I score it the same as Oblivion because Oblivion took a lot of backsteps in the lore but was still a solid RPG, while Skyrim fixed a lot of lore and added some surreal stuff back in while completely ruining the series as RPGs.

Which one? Devious Devices? It's just a mod for putting armbinders, chastity belts and gags on your character it's pretty great if you're into that sort of thing. I like using the mod that makes it so your character will randomly be equipped with them as you look through stuff like chests and bodies. Makes it pretty intense when you're digging through people's closets trying to steal gold or whatever.
>>
>>271481063
I remember a lot of threads where people were jizzing themselves over the early scripting, especially in Riverwood. Stepping into the inn, the bard is playing, the innkeeper steps out and argues with her husband/partner about how the ale's gone bad. It felt so nicely handled and emergent. Of course, once people remembered that emergent AI is still nowhere near good enough for things like that, they all started shitting on it.
>>
I liked it a lot when it came out, but going back to it later I just don't like it much.

>>

>Plus, if you disagree with anything I just said, you're welcome to modding the fuck out of it and making the game -literally- whatever you want, and theres definitely something to be said for that

There are no mods that make the main quest interesting and engaging.
There are no mods that make people actually respond to you being the Mages' Guild Master, or singlehandedly winning the war for the stormcloaks, or killing the goddamn emperor.
There are no mods that make the combat not simplistic shit.
There are no mods that meaningfully reintroduce stats birthsigns and dicerolls
There are no mods that make the world of Skyrim as visually engaging and unique as Morrowind
There are no mods that make the civil war feel like a real war
There are no mods that make dragon combat not godawful
There are no mods that make Alduin a good antagonist

I could go on
>>
I've spent 445 hours in the game, 60 of them in the first week, so I must have. Thing is that after so long all the flaws become glaringly obvious.
>>
>>271481349
I'm not really in bondage but I'm looking for a crazy mod to make use of sexlab animation.
Only one I have so far is sex addicts that is just plain sex.
>>
Just redownloaded it recently.

The DLC is awesome! I had never played it before.
>>
>>271481693
It's not really even close. Witcher 2 was a really good game but it isn't fair to compare it to the impact of skyrim, good or bad
>>
>>271481793
Not sure I can help you since I'm crazy into bondage so I have nothing but those kinds of mods installed. Pretty sure there's ones where your character gets raped when you lose to fights maybe that?? I have it where they equip my character with random bondage gear after I lose but I bet you could turn all that off with that mod menu stuff.
>>
>>271476754
Yes in my top 10
>>
I keep hearing that, when modded, it's amazing. I bought legendary edition in a sale and I'd love to play the game modded. Is modding through steam a viable option? I read about skyrim nexus but it seems you have to go through 3 different 3rd party programs.
>>
>>271476754
played over 200 hours of it, it was fun for a while no doubt.

>Can only summon one guy
>He's not even spooky, he's just a bandit covered in blue paint
>who dies after 30 seconds
>most enemies two shot him
>if he dies, he becomes ashes so I can't summon him again
>If I move to a new area, he becomes ashes.
>Game teases me with the promise of 2 permanent blue guys if I suffer to level 100 conjuration
>Doesn't help that everything makes me feel like I'm supposed to be playing the game as a warrior

>Vampire expansion comes out
>Supposedly necromancy heavy
>Instead of blue guys, now we get black half formed skellingtons.
>But you have to be a faggit ass vampire
>Eventually lose interest before even finishing the main quest

And that is my Skyrim experience.
>>
The biggest turn off for me is the pacing
Too much time spent walking around doing absolutely nothing and too little time spent battling dudes
Even though the combat was shit, I certainly enjoyed going for shield speck and timing bashes, but there were so few enemies that I was literally hunting what to kill most of my time
Is there a mod that makes combat happen more often so I can enjoy the game a bit more?
>>
>>271481805
Dragonborn was really good. I feel lots of people didn't pay attention to it. I never see it mentioned. It wasn't quite as good as shivering isles but it played off of morrowind nostalgia very well, while keeping it relevant to the dragonborn. And the oblivion parts of it were interesting and something the base game sorely lacked.

You're misinformed friend. Let me sort it out for you.

1.) Yes, you can mod through steam. All a mod is, is changing the game files.
2.) Nexus Mod Manager is a program that automatically places the files in the correct location for you. Not mandatory, but recommended.
3.) Mods don't change gameplay much. If you liked the game, you'll like it more modded. If you did not like the game, you won't like it due to mods.
>>
shit. Combat was garbage after I had played games like chivalry and dark souls.
>>
>>271482040
I guess I'm gonna give that Devious Device a try.
Just tell me, can I like capture bandits, take them to dungeon and torture/rape them?
That would be great.
>>
>>271482161
There are a lot of mods on steam and you can make a very enjoyable game using only those mods, but the nexus just has more and typically better mods available. You do not need 3rd party programs to install mods, but lots of people use them for making sure everything loads properly.
>>
>>271482161

You don't need any programs to mod skyrim. It's literally all copy/pasting. People only use third party programs to manage their mods.

Skyrim is better than W2 for the sole reason that it runs well and can achieve 30 fps on my toaster.
>>
>>271482369
I get the concept of mods. But when I read up on it on the skyrim nexus they pointed to 2 more programs, one of which changes how the game launches and so forth for different mods to work.

Some people said steam has solid mod support tools.
>>
It is a game that is neither as good or as bad as people would like you to believe. I mean obviously it has some major flaws like lack of choices and dull places and such but the freedom to walk wherever you want and the sense of exploration are great. One thing really bad about skyrim though (and TES in general) is that sneak is hilariously imbalanced to the point that you will kill everyone without breaking a sweat and the game becomes walking simulator.
>>
>>271482369
SKSE is the program you're referring to. It is only mandatory for certain mods, such as Sky UI but it's very small and easy to use.

Steam has solid mod support tools for certain mods, as well, such as its included high res texture pack.
>>

>>The guards do, except killing the emperor since you're supposed to be incognito when you do it.
The guards tell you to go join the mages guild even when you're the guild leader. Their responses are terrible.
>There are no mods that make the combat not simplistic shit.
>>True. Its an engine limitation. Sorry.
>There are no mods that meaningfully reintroduce stats birthsigns and dicerolls
>>What is Skyrim Redone, what is Requiem, what is any of the other gameplay overhaul mods.
I've tried all of those mods, and not one of them has any sort of meaningful impact on gameplay. They accomplish fucking nothing.
>There are no mods that make the world of Skyrim as visually engaging and unique as Morrowind
>>Nothing could. Skyrim is a drab viking aesthetic place. Morrowind was unique.
>There are no mods that make the civil war feel like a real war
>>What is Civil War redone.
The civil war redone mod is fucking godawful, jesus christ.

>>What is one of the dozens of dragon buffer mods.
they just replace shitty dragon combat with shittier dragon combat
>There are no mods that make Alduin a good antagonist
>>What is Alduin Redone.
see first answer

There are LOADS of mods that attempt to fix Skyrim's many problems, but none that actually succeed. They're like tiny bandaids on gaping wounds.
>>
>>271481720
There's a guard dialogue overhaul that makes guards recognize you as a member of the companions, the archmage, the hero of the rebellion/empire, and as a fearsome member of the Black Hand.
Skyrim Redone's combat module completely overhauls the combat to put an emphasis on timing blocks, skillful magic applications, and actually making the various magic fields more viable, particularly when coupled with the Apocalypse spell pack.
Skyrim Redone makes stats actually matter, and the standing stones are reworked pretty heavily to not be overpowered. Also, if you want something more traditional, with Requiem, once you choose one of the three Standing Stones at the beginning of the game, you can only select standing stones from within that group for the rest of the game, effectively making you more locked into the role of warrior, mage or thief.
There are a ton of visual mods to make the gameworld more visually vibrant as well as add more NPCs. I love the Sexy Cities series myself, as they add strong, distinct colors to each city and fluff up the flora to make each city feel distinct.
There's at least a few very good large civil war overhauls to add random scrimmages across the map and dramatically expand the size of both armies.
There's several mods to make dragons more dangerous and to improve their AI functionality.
I'll admit I haven't addressed all of your complaints, but I hope that you'll at least look at some of these before completely writing off the modding scene.
>>
Now that we are on this topic could someone mention the most essential Skyrim mods that everyone should use and are preferrably easy to install? I played all of the major quests in skyrim back in the day and I think I bought the dawnguard dlc too but I have not played the game in aeons. Graphics mods are not a problem.
>>
The music really did immerse me into the game. The main quests were meh, but the side quests were pretty fun.
>>
I enjoyed it enough to sink 50 hours into it, buth thats only a fraction of what I sunk into Oblivion.

The only thing that kept me coming back to Skyrim was exploring shit. The story was uninteresting, and the guild quests were lame as fuck. Every other side quest seemed to be nothing but go here, kill x or go there and get y. It didn't help that the enemy variety was seriously lacking compared to other TES games, either
>>
>>271482193
Shit son, never heard of mods?
You can be the necromancer of your dreams with like 2 or 3 mods.
There is a mod where you can have a army of undeads, choose their formations, and shit like that.
>>
>>271481349
which mod is this for oblivion I got japanese only text links
>>
>>271483131
I mean obviously the game has faults but it has its moments

>Walking in the tundra at night in a snowstorm
>Music starts https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=aQeIYVM3YBM#t=5967
>Spot a campfire and bandits in the distance
>Start picking them off one by one
>>
>>271482958
>I've never actually played those mods, the post

Its apparently that you're just talking out of your ass.

Requiem alone can make the game so balls-bustingly difficult that it makes you wish for vanilla difficulty.
>>
>>271483473
I've played requiem. Difficulty does not make the game good.
>>
>>271482447

Skyrim got a 40/40 in Famitsu, the first Western game to ever get a perfect score. This caused everyone in Japan to buy the game, and now all major Japanese studios are trying to emulate the exploration aspect of it in their AAA titles. In that sense, I love Skyrim and what it stands for in the long run.

As for the actual game, it was slightly above mediocre by Western RPG standards in terms of gameplay, but it was EXCELLENT in terms of visual and audio design. I feel like Skyrim / DX:HR on PC in late 2011 is when "next-gen" actually started in full, with Crysis (2007) spearheading the entire shift.
>>
>>271476754
I enjoyed it as a walking simulator but it has zero mechanical depth, the war felt tacked on and utterly unrealistic, armor mixing almost always looks like shit and the tombs all feel the exact same.
>>

So THAT explains why Nintendo is going for the Skyrim audience with the new Zelda
