I still remember. I was sitting in class when i looked out the window and saw smoke from afar, then the principal came in and told the teacher to turn on the tv. We were pulled out of school early and i remember everything being chaotic, people frantically running around all scared. Even as a kid i always wondered why were people so panicked when we werent even so close to it (i lived in west new york, which is in new jersey). My dad even had to go pick up my aunt at work, she got stuck there since she worked only a few blocks away from the towers.

I met a lot of people who had similar stories.
A friend that I met in college said that he and his friend got kicked out of school because they were laughing hysterically at it because it was so surreal. You know when a teacher is yelling at you or something and you suddenly can't help yourself from laughing? He said they saw a clip of some guy jumping out of the building and they started laughing and got suspended.
I was 15 at the time and up until then it was always "America #1" "You can be President when you grow up!" etc. etc. so it was kind of a refreshingly sobering experience.

The part that really got me was walking home from school that day. I live near an airport, so typically I'd see 4-5 planes every day on the way home. But on 9/11, the sky was totally empty and silent. Pretty spooky.

I live in Canada and I was 9 at the time, it seems weird to show people jumping out of buildings and dead bodies to a class of kids. I didn't know what it all meant and I was too young to understand what was going on.
