He made me realize over the course of 2 years that his co-hosts who I didn't like when they first appeared were actually MUCH funnier than him.
His whole "career" is being a voice actor who plays video games and tells jokes and he does NONE of them well or that much actually.
When the show first started Jon was the annoying dipshit with dumb opinions and sucked at games. When he left he had surpassed Ego in terms of everything and is now back to making videos and getting millions of views.
And now Danny, who has his horribly unfunny band with a cringe-worthy name, is more entertaining than Ego as well. And Danny's whole schtick is based around dressing up as the wrestler who died horribly at a PPV and he's still more funny than Ego.
Basically, Ego showed potential, and then never progressed. If he just put some effort in I'm sure he could go places...
His highly accurate as well as entertaining analasyses are an inspiration to new faces as well as seasoned legends of the industry alike. His passion for gaming goes well beyond being a mere consumer, he's actively changing the way video games are being made and looked at.

2003-2007 was the golden era. It was the sweetspot where the explorative immaturity of NG's early days overlapped with budding new talents forging the new frontier of internet entertainment. That's when you had bright passionate animators and devs having a blast making lots of funny and exciting animations and games, which were often good even if the technical quality was lousy. It was the heart that made it great. Yet at the same time, there were incredible animators making mind blowing things at the same time. You got the whole shebang back then and it was awesome. Popular and talented artists kept in touch and updated often and it was always a thrill to see what they were doing next. Even lesser genres like sprite animations were at the peak of quality during that time.
Fucking hell I miss those days. There's so much saturation of predictable generic things on NG now it's not even worth keeping up. Only thing worth watching are the oldschool greats who update with something interesting on rare occasions.

Started off great, but then he went stagnant, then sour. A lot of his early stuff still gets me pretty good, but he never took his hummer to much further than "look at the stupid parts of this game, while i over exaggerate every little thing". It seemed like he had something great,but turned out to be pretty much a one trick pony, who rode his fame for as long as he could . Sequalitis is kind of a redemption for him though hope he can make something more out of that.
