You didn't like it, fine enough. I liked it because it was relateable and felt highly relevant at the time. The themes just appeal to me in general. All of them. Together and woven interestingly. It had soul, and contrary to what you've tried to imply, I don't at all think it was trying to be anything or cared to impress you with some "profound" nature. It seemed far more personal, and the director even said he chose the title because it "sounded cool". And the way the episodes were made... the Eternal Smile, the game show, just no. I had a "fun" air to it in a lot of the episodes reminiscent of more episodic shows.
Now ask yourself this, even if it was trying to be profound (for who knows why), does it really matter?
