Magic (most of the types)is considered one of the hardest builds to play as (except blubber magic), because you have to be completely stationary when using most of the good spells which can have long cast times. This means you have to be ready to use your magic shield at any time which requires insane reflexes due to the shield only being able to activate in one second intervals. Mages rely heavily on activating their shield during casting so as not to be interrupted (you can use the shield mid cast without interrupting the spell) one thing Mages dont need is agility, due to the fact that they wont be running much or dodging attacks.
Definitely stack Luminosity to reduce magic shield activation cost and cooldown and Knowledge to reduce mental deficiency.

Dude, level up finesse. Weapon stance blocks are better against katanas than shields because you can parry them and get a hit in. It also helps that pretty much every weapon has a stance that can parry, even weapons like the Doublesoldier's Doublehander. DD is really underrated, people don't care that its moveset changes from brute to swordmaster when you get high enough finesse, giving you the ability to strike fast from afar and have some sick parry range too.

Larry is a semi-hidden NPC located under a false floor in the Cave of Confusing Hallway Placement. Upon entering the cave take the first 7 left turns, then turn right. A portion of the floor in this room is very subtly off-white in color. Use the Ring of Nonsense to reveal a staircase. Larry will be waiting for you at the bottom. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE A TORCH EQUIPPED, he will attack you if you do.

So, you can't kill the demon at the end of level six? Do you have the magic arrows? Easy, here's what you do. Hide behind the boulder. When the demon comes out of the cave, shoot him three times with the magic arrows. Then his head will start to spin. Once that happens, you jump up on the boulder, you do a flying downward thrust with the sword of doom, and that's it - level six is done.

Who do I give the Wilting Icepick Rose to? There was a trail of frosted-over grass in Archgiant's Rest (after the first area boss) and it led to a whole patch of IRs including the wilting one which I can't use.
Lancemaster Siebold was my first thought since Icepick Roses are only meant to drop in the Glacial Swamp, but ever since I defeated the Cockatrice that he wouldn't shut up about he's gone from his training ground.
