Decorating - There is a village center you can access that has stores, one of these is the general store where you can buy seeds. You can grow vegetables, fruits, tree's bushes etc. You can also buy a variety of fencing and pavings to DIY your garden with. You can also buy other general decorating items like fountains, chimes, a statue, fallen logs etc. If you get the beggars shop, the decorating items he gives you will also positively effect your garden. The red-eye rainbow will stop pinata's fighting, as a few of the species don't get along and will fight all the fucking time. You have 100% control of your garden and how it looks at any time.
eugenics - Basically you breed them, if you don't like them you can beat the fuck out of them and kill them which ends when they explode in a rain of confetti and candy with happy cheering. Other pinata's will eat the candy which makes them happier. You can also change their colours by feeding them select items, like flowers etc.
minigames - basically, you have to fill requirements of pinata's for them to be able to romance, which basically means fuck. when you get them to fuck, it will take you into a minigame where you have to guide one pinata through a maze of exploding balloons. With low level pinata's its an easy maze, with higher, more valuable pinatas its tricky as fuck and you die a lot. But, they also scale personally to each pinata (all the maze's are custom too)
the more of that pinata you have in the garden, the less lives you have to make it through the maze with. At the end, before you get your 7th pinata (which will make you a master romancer for that species of pinata, an award given to you that gives you more exp) you end up with one life to make it through, which is hard as fuck.

Some of the references are obscure as fuck. Chewnicorn was a reference to a British sweet called Chewits (A british sweet sorta like Starbursts). It was also running gag like Mr. Pants on Rare's website since it opened in 1996 where Leigh (The guy who replied on the letters page) would go on random sequiturs about Chewits during the replies.
VP always had really unappreciated humor like the load screen tips. You should read the Pinatapedia entries. Some of them are ridiculously dark humored like the Fudgehog's.
