At the very least DmC and Ninja Theory aren't coming back. Capcom probably won't do anything with the IP, but it was a lose/lose scenario once DmC came into existence; it sees success and the series goes in that direction, or it bombs and they write off Devil May Cry as a whole as something that people don't want. The latter is better than the former because there's a chance, even if it's a small one, that they may wise up and do another proper iteration and the latter is what did in fact happen.

My main problem with the game was the oversimplification of the combat system. They removed so much for the sake of accessibility and didn't give anything back in return.
The game needed a second playable character that played like a DMC game. That would have improved it significantly.
The next game should have Donte or Nero (since they're basically the same character) alongside Dante. I'd play that.

They're both motivated primarily by a girl, they both have a grabbing mechanic, they have a lot of the same moves, they have similar personalities, their swords have almost the exact same design, they were both made with the intention of bringing in a new audience to the franchise.

That's the reason why. A lot of people are so desperate to cover up any criticism that they intentionally re-label stuff to make it seem intentional. He wasn't drunk, he wasn't even bored, it was a design choice used because DMC3 was, for all intents and purposes, a re-boot. They didn't use Dante's original personality because it wasn't theirs, so instead they made a "parody" of it and gave it to Nero instead and instead of growing from the teenage personality, they just slapped it right in there because it was easy, it was cool, no one would mind.
DMC4 may play well enough but that's all it's got going for it. It was one hell of a lazy title that has been given more credit than it's ever deserved because fans like you and me are so fucking starved for more DMC we're becoming delusional.
