From what I've seen of video demonstrations, they actually managed to dumb down the system even more from Civ V.
To call it a strategy game would be embarrassing at this point. You've got the wizard/warrior/rouge equivalent of political affinities that don't really mean much to each other besides arbitrary points of advantage. The game is about as philosophically profound as a high schooler's instagram.

This is a rare game that is rarely talked about but still manages to be incredibly overrated. About the only thing it has going for it is AI.
The research is dull and uninterested, the races are forgettable as fuck, the combat is non-existent, the presentation feels plastic, soulless and manufactured, the rock-paper-scissors ship design is absolute wankery. Not to mention ship design is practically useless since the ships are updated automatically when you research the dull as fuck laser 1>laser 2>laser 3 bullshit techs.
