So what are some good games where you control hueg robots? I'm in the mood for some mecha action but I don't really know where to go. I've already played Zone of the Enders if that helps.
Pic related, I'm interested in checking out the Armored Core series but again, I don't know where to start.

Armored Core 4 and 4 Answer are my favorite. Fast paced action, but the way the game is made is not for everyone. It's more of a "test your build against several conditions" game than mecha adventure or whatever.

Although purists will tell you that the 3 era is the best era. specifically Silent Line and Last Raven, both of them are great

>>263787760
The front mission games let you do SRPG fights with giant robits. You can even blow their limbs off.

Gundam Crossfire makes Gundams from fast mecha to slow clunkers. Shit controls though.

Gundam Breaker is more fast paced, but dat gunpla system

Fed vs Zeon/Gundam vs Zeta is great bro-op arcade/ps2 game

Zeonic Front is rainbow 6 with Zakus

Journey to Jaburo is like Gundam 3ps

MS Saga is a neat gundam RPG with horrible character design

AC4 was fun, but very lifeless, while AC5 was shit with that online clan system

And then there's Steel Battalion...

>Steel Battalion
One of my dreams is to play that game. Not even own it and the controller, but just play it.
>tfw no one would ever be crazy enough to risk making a game like Steel Battalion again

Metal Wolf Chaos

An XBOX game... that's been released only in Japan. Go figure.

If you don't mind playing a ps1 game, play Omega Boost.

I would recommend Armored Core V. The game is vastly different that other games in the AC series (think of it as a non-related side story instead of a numbered sequel), but it's much slower paced and easy on newcomers.

And never ever play Last Raven as your first AC game....

Not only that, but it's one of the most American games ever made.

Armored core 4/5 are separate(in gameplay and story) enough from the other games that they work as decent starting points on the 360/PS3 though For Answer and Verdict Day fix a lot of the issues from their series' base game and might be a better start.

Aside from that the PS2 Era games(AKA the 3 series) are a good starting point, following sequentially(skipping some filler games like formula front) and ending with obviously Last Raven. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT LAST RAVEN GOES LAST THAT GAME IS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE HARDEST GAMES IN THE ENTIRE SERIES
>>
>>263789279

And skip Evolved.
>>
>>263787760
Armored Core V is fun, even if the machines are less huge than previous installments. The AC games are made for stat lovers though, so don't go into it unless you really, really like micromanagement and can handle a shit ton of stats. You'll generally be fine, just remember to keep AP, horizontal thrust and firepower high while using weights to keep your mech's center of gravity centered.

For less stat mangement try something like Metal Wolf Chaos or Strike Suit Zero (though the latter is more of a space flight dogfighter).

X Chronicles, the new one, looks to be pretty good too.

>>263788026
If you listen to this faggot, you're retarded. 4 and for answer are total dogshit which ruined the whole series, and only 5 starts attempting to piece it back together.

Every game on PS1 and PS2 is great, just go in order. Skip 1 and Master of Arena if you're not too sure about the dated graphics and gameplay, and start with 2. The games introduce some interesting mechanics as time goes on, heat was good, overboost was a little silly but had some neat uses, and then 4 came along and ruined everything by turning a fairly slow paced arena game into "WHOA LETS FLY AROUND A CITY AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT AND NEVER TOUCH THE GROUND WHILE SPAMMING PRETTY MISSILES EVERYWHERE WOO!"

And this is coming from someone who enjoyed ZoE. AC should never have been like that.

>>263789386
So are the subtitled games that come after a number game (like the 3 series or for answer and verdict day) sequels to that game, or are they like updated re-releases?
>>
>>263789872
Sequels.
>>
>>263789872
Sequels, different missions and they add parts but the core gameplay is the same.

>>263789868

No, only if it was a self-contained series. I wouldn't have minded Chromehounds being an AC game, it's at least slightly more faithful to the original design over AC4 and 4A. The new games should have been called something to clearly differentiate them from the old games.

Really? Not OP but I might pick up ACV - the only AC games I've played are the original on PS1 and For Answer. I just thought that's how the whole series got eventually.

ACV might be good.

God damn it. I hate that I know this but...

>(think of it as a non-related side story instead of a numbered sequel)

Verdict Day is in fact a direct sequel to 5 plus it actually connects the stories and worlds of the previously unrelated 4 series and 5 series.
>>
>>263790693
I'm not saying 5 is good, I'm saying it's the first attempt in years to create an AC game. Verdict day is the only game from that gen I'd say you can play if for some reason all PS2s in your area have been destroyed and you aren't capable of picking one up.
