I didn't even know about any of the pre-release material but buying Spore was still some of the most buyer's remorse I ever had.

It seemed like it was just doomed. I was so excited when the original creature creator came out. But so many elements joined together to bring it down.

The problem is that you're launched into space after like 3-4 hours and the rest of the game plays out in that little ship of yours. What if I wanted to stay on my planet and develop there? There isn't an option to do that.

A lot more could have been done with it, I only started using 4chan like 3 years ago so I wasn't around for the hype, but when I got it I thought it was alright. Not much can be said about microbe stage or whatever the fuck, creature stage is a grindfest and tribal is absolute garbage.
Spore was too ambitious for its own good. That in no way excuses the shitfest we ended up with, but I get the feeling that I would've been disappointed and thought it had fallen short no matter how it had turned out.

I played Spore and thought it was pretty shit, but I don't actually see what they did to fuck it up. What mechanics would have made the game better?
Was the game ever supposed to not be a giant treadmill? Why people got hyped up for it still eludes me.
