Bad ending involves responding to Wait when asked what should be done about the big bad.
Sad ending involves not turning your town into the next Obelisk (1st game reference), a floating city.
True ending involves you doing the thing you didn't do to get the previous ending.
The only missable I can think of offhand is simply a point of no return in terms of not saving someone (saving said person is part of how you get the town to fly).
There's also an optional secret character from the first game you can recruit, but she's not ever perma-missable.

They're both fantastic games. I like the 4th one better, but last I checked the general fanbase prefers the 3rd one. This is what made me quit my first play thru over 10,000 years ago. There's shamans you find that let you use your guys together, and you can't go back and get this one if you do certain things.

I can't believe I've already put 40 hours into the game. I practically sold it at the beginning because i didn't like the pacing of the game (up to the mansion). The game has some rough patches but all in all it's a really comfy and enjoyable experience. Messing around with the dragon genes can be pretty fun in random battles, to see what works and what (often!) doesn't.

Maybe it's because I read the Prima guide cover to cover for a few months, before waiting a year to play the game for the first time, but I never really felt that.
Some of those items aren't all that confusing. Sure, a Salad Bowl seems silly, but when you canactually equip a napkin, plate, and fork/knife, it's not too out of place, and after all, it's only early in the game. GutsBT was an accessory, so Guts Belt, and HelpBL wasn't even equippable, that's a Help Ball for recovering HP.

Bof1 has your standard stuff in a generic world.
Bof2 is mostly the same but has some people with some advanced technology aka that flying fortress or whatever.
Bof3 the world is split because of the growing desert. At the heart of the desert are the mostly ruins of an advanced civilization, probably the same ones from Bof2. But because of their abuse of the technology, natural resources were used up and that made the desert go out of control.
Bof4 the world is mostly sandy deserts and huge mud swamps, probably from the desert that continued to grow in Bof3 and filled up the oceans.
Bof5 people are living underground, probably due to the sand covering up everything on the surface.R-right?

Could be, but we don't know for sure. Only the first 3 games is there referencing to prior games. 4 has no prior game references, and might even be an alternate universe (as it's not clear whether the Endless got pulled from or to the BoF universe and depending on the answer could change whether it's actually first, or fourth). BoF5 is a spin-off, according to the art books, so fuck if I know it's connection. It could fit at the end though, sure.
