Disgaea wasn't funny or entertaining to me. It was fun because I like tile-based games overall. I thought it was really weird weeb-shit but it was fun and had a class system, even better. It LOOKED REALLY well polished too. Some of the PS2 Fire Emblems I just didn't take a look had blocky 3D models and plain and brown dirt-patched grassfields. Nigga it looked like a boring RPG (I don't like turn-based RPGs).

2. It's not like all games are going to adopt this. Just ones that try to be more "role playing" as it adds to the player's sense of agency and control.
3. If you don't like Waifu talk, try to change the subject to something more gameplay or story related.
For instance, I really felt that Grangel or whatever the mad king's name was both underused and too over the top at the same time somehow. There seemed to be too many "No, THIS is the real bad guy" moments.
There's nothing wrong with Awakening being someone's first game as long as they go back and play the other games as well.

Difficulty has nothing to do with it you faggot, PoR and Sacred Stones are two of the more well regarded games in the series and they're piss easy.
You touched on the reason I don't like it in the sentence right beforehand. It feels more like a game for Disgaea fans than FE fans. More of a focus on grinding and crushing enemies with broken mechanics than the good level design that made FE maps so interesting.

Fire Emblem always had waifu. Just because it didn't have dating sim elements doesn't mean it didn't have waifus. It had tons of cute, sexy, beautiful or other such female characters that many people loved. Even before awakening, other games before had the mechanic of having children or support. Waifus are nothing new to the series, just implemented in a more straightforward way. The real kicker is not the romance (which is a whole four conversations) but the ability to have children, and pair up different characters to result in different children. Awakening IS more popular than prevous games, but is it really just because you can marry someone? No. Here are the facts.
1. You could marry in some previous games or have support conversations in other games.
2. The series has always had attractive anime girls and attractive anime men, which attracts certain demographics regardless of whether you can romance them or not.
3. The ability to have children and change them depending on who the parents are is an interesting mechanic that adds depth and replay value to the game
4. Previous games were mostly restricted to Japan, limiting sales
5. Previous games had a much lower budget and were far less polished compared to other games of their time
6. Previous games came out on more popular consoles which had a bigger variety of games, meaning more competition
It's easy to see why Awakening would be more popular than previous games in the series.

this is a misconception, a lot of the games have pretty ok prepromotes. but the thing is in radiant dawn there are 2 promotions. the game kinda treats the second class tier as if it were the first in that most units come at that level of promotion, so the dawn brigade units are more like pre-prepromote than prepromotes. also a lot of them suck shit through a hose, nolan is great and aran and edward are salvageable but some of them are just trash

I feel like the romance aspect of Awakening got overblown. There's really not much to it.
You can marry the Avatar to anyone if you so choose, you get a kid or two, and then that's that. The Avatar's spouse and child(ren) have no bearing on the actual story.
The only characters that the Avatar can marry that affect the story are Chrom and Lucina; and it's just one scene.

There are two defend an NPC maps (3 if you include spotpass), but one of them takes place in a fucking field with no defensible positions and the spotpass one only has that as a secondary objective to rout the enemy.
Honestly, I love defense maps, but the lack of them is way less offensive than all the fucking open field maps and the general smallness of them compared to units' movement ranges. It promotes the justthroweveryoneforward strategy instead of actual tactics.

The only thing that I disliked about Awakening was that how the reclassing and skills were implemented. Having a cap at 20-20 meant that there was good reason to use a reasonably sized group of characters, but when you can reclass and reskill one unit as much as you want, it's too easy to make a god-tier character and run through everything with them alone. So many missions turn into send _______ into enemy army and watch it all burn

I feel like Thracia 776 was the only game that handled the CON+weapon weight system well, since CON was a stat you could potentially increase if you wanted to but since it affected more than just attack speed with certain weapons(rescuing, being rescued, capturing, movement penalties for the person doing the rescuing and capturing), it actually felt like something you needed to decide whether or not you should try to get a person high or low CON.
Mages still getting the full weight speed penalty regardless of CON was dumb though.

These maps are examples of good FE defense maps. I like awakening and all, but the maps and missions were incredibly uninspired.
