Every gen has been better than the last overall as it introduced new moves, types, Pokemon, ability, better online, and more quality of life improvements over the last generations, but Platinum was still the best jump up and had the best improvement over the previous gens by getting all of the improvements made in DP while fixing its two biggest major issues and getting better in every regard.
Platinum had the best new content while every gen has been so much of an improvement overall that going back and playing previous generations feels off. If Platinum was released now with its unique content it would still be the best game versus any others even if they were also brought up to today's standards.

Not sure about the AS and OR. I find the core gameplay pretty boring. Pokemon Y was like a cozy childhood trip where I just wanted to get every pokemon I've ever liked so I got a lot of playtime from it.

Casualness was a severe issue within the game
-Easier ways to earn exp, you could overlevel all of your party just by beating all the trainers in the game
-Handholding as bad as the one in B/W, you literally run into your faggot friends every gym battle or 2, to be fair this isn't such an issue between the first and second gym, that was probably the best part of the game, then after the third gym, every gym badge took like 20 minutes to get between each other
-Easier shinies
-Easier IV breeding and EV training
-Literally no trainer with more than 4 pokemon
-Poison doesn't even deal damage outside of battles
There are also other issues withing the meta in general:
-Least pokemon added
-Fucking megas instead of more evolutions, let's buff the already buffed pokemon! great idea!
-Version exclusive items (good luck getting the ones exclusive to the other version)
-Besides Boomburst and Knight Shield, no other useful move was introduced
And the fucking game itself was made horribly and considering gen 1 was one of the best looking GB games out there, this is sad as fuck
-No 3D in a 3DS game
-Frame rate drop when it actually becomes 3D
-Lose connection to the global link (or whatever it is called) when you close your 3DS

Well, that's fair then. Honestly, my biggest issue is IVs. EV training is a lot better than before with horde battles and being able to reset them without multiples of a rare berry.
