The term "Good Ol' Boys Club" is a favorite term of feminist activists for industries they say have institutionalized misogyny, but the truth of the matter is that those boys clubs discriminate against any outsider. Misogyny is a symptom, not the cause. Efforts to reduce alleged institutionalized misogyny in the games industry hasn't done anything to fix the actual problem.

1.) In the case of Sharky lying about contacting the police department, I understand that apparently she's in conversation with the FBI. Does this completely blow this whole thing apart? Guys, I think Gamergate's moving into a critical phase. The groundgame we're doing is excellent. If you had told me two weeks ago that we sacked Polygon like Atilla did to Rome, I'd think you guys were crazy. But the campaign is working. We're hitting their wallets.
I was just talking to my cousin who works at a big ad agency here in NYC. He basically told me that what we're doing would cause a huge-short term windfall, but because we're hitting major outlets in a relatively small field (games media) the companies are battening down the hatches. Given the atomsphere of the market, though, they'll survive. We've wounded the shit out of them, but they'll survive.
He told me something that resonates. The only way we're going to be able to step up and challenge these fucks is to literally build a fucking aggregate site. Kotaku for hardcore gamers, essentially. Goodgamers is a start, but we're not going to be able to take them on until we've gone corporate too. Now might be the time.

Which is another issue I have with the current state of this movement, there are several of us who want this to be their get-rich-quick scheme, they see this and think they can become an internet star. I think it is more reasonable to create a network of alternative outlets than a single site. Big name sites are dying overall and we as consumers can rely more on each other for proper media and journalism. Blogs, youtube channels, etc are all new ways to get legit content.

Firing people all across the board is not the ethical thing to do if there are no ethical guidelines in the first place. Pretty sure there's something like that in the Constitution or Bill of Rights, where you can't be convicted of a crime if the law is created after the "crime" is committed.
If a site (i.e. The Escapist) instates an ethical guideline, it should be the responsibility of the reporter to retroactively edit their articles to reflect conflicts of interest or delete said articles. If they write pieces afterward that violate the ethical guidelines, they should be reprimanded.
