I was playing the original SNES Mechwarrior, it was ok. Kind of reminds me of Proto-Armored Core.

Also, you probably want to play Living Legends if you like MW, it's like MWO with a ton more stuff, better mechanics, but sadly no mech lab. It's also combined arms, so expect to see tanks, VTOLs, Aerospace Fighters, and Battle Armor.

For Answer in its prime was goddamn fun, but unless you like going fast it might not be your thing. Hell, every time I see one of these threads nobody recommends Armored Core. Is it just not considered a true mech game or something. or is it just too obvious?

If you don't have Extreme Versus (Full Boost) already, go get it.

Shit's really fucking good.

Also, if you can emulate Dreamcast, go get yourself a copy of Virtual On. It's really quite something.

>>262657395

Someone's always bound to mention For Answer.
>>
>>262657395
I've been getting into the AC series too lately.

Beaten AC1, AC4, and ACforanswer. I actually liked AC4 the best, the mech handling was better suited to all-range combat. In AC:FA, you couldn't turn for shit so you were stuck with mid to long range combat.

As far as I'm concerned though AC games are fucking great, just a little too short now that the online is dead.
>>
>>262657351

They actually put a damn good amount of detail into this game, and it has some great controls for a PS2 game that technically doesn't have an "up" or "down" in stages.

Are you looking for super robot stuff or simulation stuff?

For action
>Gundam Battle Universe (really the entire Gundam Battle series for the PSP
>Titanfall
>Mech Assault
>Armored Core
>Metal Wolf Chaos

For Sim
>Steel Battalion
>Mech Warrior series
>Gungriffon

I don't know many good mech sims. Never was really a fan of them anyway.
>>
>>262657087
>How is super slow mech fighting better?
Because it's 100x more tactical than the arcade shooter AC games. Despite MWO's balance issues, the close range knife-fighting in that game is amazing (when it actually happens, since the battlefield is dominated by PPC and gaussfaggots). In MW games, you don't just blast away at your opponent, you first examine his loadout, try to remember or guess where certain weapons or equipment might be located and then try to blow out specific body parts with well aim shots while protecting your own ass from similar tactics via torso twisting and minimizing the exposure of your own vulnerable components. High level infighting in MW games is an artform, while combat in AC games is just arcade shootan until it stops moving.

This. Zone of the Enders 2 I should mention kicks ass.

Also the Front Mission games. Front Mission 3 has some flaws but like most Squaresoft games of that era the soundtrack is fantastic.
>>
>>262658974
Neither because it's just a shitty game with disappointingly bad visuals.
>>
>>262659054
Bitch, please, AC has never and will never have anything similar to even fucking MWO level of team based close combat tactics, let alone tactical battles on the level of some of the best MW4 player run league teams.
>>
Anyone feels like all of the AC before 4 are basically Dark Souls with mech?
>>
>>262659475
Dark Souls faggot here. No, it's arguably better.
>>
>>262658773
Have you even played an AC game? It same shit happens just at 10x the speed. If your enemy has high ACT missles, you better time your boosting correctly to dodge underneath them otherwise you'll get blasted. Or If you're fighting a heavily armed high weight AC I like to stay in the air as long as possible because heavy weapons tend to have poor accuracy. Using the terrain and zigzaging between buildings is necessary when fighting heavy weapons too. If you just start circle strafing your opponent and firing whatever the fuck you have then you're guaranteed to die. It's more about managing distance and being better at boosting in order to maximize your own locks while minimizing your opponent's chances to fire on you. All at like 1000+kph

But mechwarrior fans ways disregard AC because of muh realism even though the entire genre of mech/mecha is totally unrealistic.
>>
>>262659558
I'm not saying in terms of quality but more in terms of feel
IMO both are hard when you don't know what you are doing and have controls that fells clunky but are perfectly fine once mastered

No, it's not. MW games are all about multiplayer and team play, fuck single player shitters who can't specify the location of a fucking gauss rifle on a fucking atlas in their sleep. AC games are nowehre near MW games when it comes to team-based gameplay, coordination and team tactics.

MW4 held some of the most exciting and high-level tactical mech tourneys in the history of vidya, AC games are just arcade shooters in comparison.

I really want an XCOM style Armored Core game where you own your own corporation.

>building your own signature MT units to deploy on missions or to sell to other parties

Reminder that Mechwarrior's designs, when not directly lifted from anime, take some amount of inspiration from it.

Reminder that someone who is not familiar with the source material cannot actually tell the difference between western robots and eastern robots, and the distinction is purely in your minds.

Absolutely terrible. I went into it without ever having played a real Front Mission title and I still felt insulted by how bad the game was.

>movement hardly has any weight to it, feels like a really slow TPS instead
>most parts are straight upgrades on each other which eliminates a lot of customization
>some missions remove customization entirely by forcing you to use a certain chassis (Ex: you have to use quad legs during some shitty defense mission despite the fact that bipeds would be a lot more useful)
>shitty infantry missions that are really boring
>buttfuck stupid storyline even for a Jap game

I had more fun playing the singleplayer Chromehounds campaign than I did with this game. It was so bad that I can barely even remember most of it, I kind of forced myself to forget about it so I could feel better. I feel bad for actual Front Mission fans who played it, some of them probably committed sudoku from how bad it was.

This. There's just no tactics, let alone strategy involved. All you have to do is get your wanzers in range and take out the enemy one by one. I played through the game earlier this year for the first time and felt like there was zero challenge. It's almost like playing a game like Gono Homo where you can't die no matter what you do.
>>
>>262673770
Haven't been on in a few months so I don't know how active it is. It was pretty dead even during the most active times. I can still remember the emblems of pretty much any player or team that played regularly and it was usually just the same people fighting each other with barely any unfamiliar faces. This was on the 360 though, it might be better on the PS3.

The game itself is pretty good but it relies on the multiplayer a lot. You probably won't like it a lot if you only want to play singleplayer. The campaign is fun but I definitely didn't play through it as many times as I did For Answer.

Man, I remember that game is the reason I stopped reading IGN reviews. The reviewer complained it was nothing but an on-rails shooter and gave it a horrible score. When I played the game for myself I realized he never made it past the tutorial missions.

I hear ya, the only tough fight was against the quibing01's. then I got there suits and steamrolled the game. melee is so overpowered, 30 hours in he game just felt like a chore because it was so easy, I just blasted through everything

Is Gundam Breaker worth an import?
>>
>>262678336
My friend has it, it's pretty decent, but there is second one coming out soon.
And gameplay wise Gundam VS is still better experience. Import that instead, it doesn't even need any knowledge of japanese, while I think breaker does need some.

Just downloaded this and got hyped as fuck on the intro music, then lost all will to play after starting the tutorial. Is this really worth getting into? The game looks like shit.

I suppose. That thing was super handy. Could also be because I make the main character in every FM use melee.

Was that Metal Fatique RTS worth it?
I remember seeing a bit of it but never got it to work on Win7

You need some glide wrapper thing to make it work. I had it working, but I can't remember how.
