Best modern Tower Defense game?
I don't want to reinstall Warcraft 3, and I'm sure dota2 or starcraft2 must have something interesting since the last decade...

I do recommend the Plants vs Zombies series. They are really relaxing games. Especially the first one. Garden Warfare is not a TD game though.

okay, I checked out Defense Grid and it doesn't have the OOMPH that makes it satisfying.
This OOMPH is the reason I never played the recent CoD or Battlefield games.
If you have a PS3 then I would thoroughly recommend Comet Crash. Not the most visually polished game but fun as hell and features local co-op.

I am a fan of TD games and DG is probably one of the overall best in the genre. Lots of levels, lots of challenges, diverse tower mechanics. Note though, speeding the game up may cause your towers to make less shots.
A close second would be Revenge of the Titans and it is pretty brutal.

Hidden Path made a kickstarter for a 2nd game, I don't know if it succeeded or not but the sequel is coming or already out on Steam, will wait for a sale.
Defense Grid is the best pure Tower Defense game, hands down. If a hybrid experience is acceptablr, you will find none better than Sanctum/Sanctum 2.

Microsoft recently put Toy Soldiers on Steam. probably one of my favorite tower defense games. its basically a humorous WWI tower defense game.
Gem TD. Objectively the best TD game ever made. Started as a WC3 custom map, but someone apparently made a stand alone version.

Defense Grid is considered the best TD at the moment. There are some other good titles such as Pixel Junk Monsters Ultimate, Kingdom Rush and Fieldrunners 2. DG2 is coming out in 3 weeks, I played the beta and it's pretty good although it's the same stuff with worse graphics.

It's hard because it's designed for 2 players. You can play as 2 player co-op and the game won't get any harder. If you don't believe me, hook up a controller and play it with 2 builders. Solo-wise it's unbalanced as fuck.

Yeah, they added so many effects you can't even make anything out of the screen with multiple of bright colours blending together. There are loads of posts on the Steam discussion forums about the issue.
