Resident Evil 4 oddly.

It just feels like you are on such a ride, when I played it for the first time it had that odd hook of never really letting go, the pacing was intense. But well thought out.

The entire point of X was to make a grand adventure so I don't think you'll find anything that tops it for the feeling of actually travelling>

Lots of jrpgs but the one you posted is one of the best for that feeling because the game is linear and intended to feel like an adventure across an entire continent
>>

yup, that's about it. Lunar and Suikoden probably gave me the biggest adventure feels ever.

How does being linear help at all?

Dragons Dogma
>>
>>261967350

You go from place to place on foot, the entire journey is outlined before you begin so you're always aware of where you are going next. You can literally make your way from besaid to Zanarkand on foot using ferries and shit.
Characters slowly reveal themselves to you over the course of the game giving you a sense of bonding with them during your travels
all the amazing sights along the way and the general cozy feeling of Spira
The game is literally supposed to be about people going on a Journey to what is basically the end of the planet.
Ditching the world map was actually the best thing they could have done for this game

So? You're talking as if there are no other games that do that, and that there's no way for those games to do it better than FFX.
>>
>>261967647

Because it is a journey, you can't just go back on to previous places whenever you want. You feel like you're always constantly moving towards your goal which is to travel to the other side of the world. Even though it is rather linear all the areas are extremely unique and memorable.

When I started up Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright the title music alone made me feel like it would be the adventure of a lifetime. It really was, I feel glad now I ignored importfags and europoors that said it was trash.

As for games that DO send you on a epic journey, Okami, every Zelda I played, Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits and FF games do the whole "grand adventure" think really well.

Gravity Rush was more limited in setting than entire continents, but boy was it a ride, didn't expect it when I started playing it.

I supposed that the Summoners pilgrimage to become the Grand Summoner and the fact that everyone in the world is aware of your journey doesn't quite qualify it to be called a 'grand journey' huh?

I hate neo /v/, always creating arguments when there is no need

OP here, FFX is a great game, it's very linear, some people like that aspect, but it's not for everyone. Linearity or lack of, is not a requirement for an adventure game. Stop being cocksuckers and talk about more games.

Why those particular games from the franchise
>>
>>261971943
Yeah now that i think about it, the original had a much bigger sense of adventure because no one knew what the fuck was going on. In KH2 there was a set goal and you revisited familial places. In KH you were a kid who lost his home and friends and now you have a massive key.
>>
Why do people love X for being one long corridor with no sidequests yet hate XIII for doing the same thing? In fact XIII did it better because they didn't stop every 2 seconds to could have the exact same fucking inner monologue for the entire game.

I think Black's story does the best of making you feel vital to the story.Youre on an epic quest to stop Team Plasma from severing the bond between human and Pokemon forever. It's a lot more epic than "youre some ten year old who ended up saving the world somehow i guess"
And I liked how Skyward Sword's narrative played up the whole"Chosen Hero of the Goddess" thing, even if the gameplay made you feel more like"Chosen Errand Boy of the Goddess"

Crystarium vs Sphere Grid.
No redeeming characters in 13 compared to some in 10.

No one in my friend group knew what the hell traverse town was or what the hell Sora was doing there and the places that game took you along the way were fresh and out of the blue.

Like flying through space Into a SPACE WHALE!! Fighting cloud AND hercules in the arena! Sliding down jungle logs! Hanging with jack skeleton in Halloween town.

all summed up with a moderatrly serious/somber conclusion.

Dragonquest 8 has the fucking best world map for a first play, you feel like you're exploring a really fantastic world.

On replays you can't capture the sense of adventure of the first play and the world can kinda feel quaint and smallish, but I mean I can't dock off points for that. It absolutely is designed to make the most of its world, and that first playthrough is still magical. And I wasn't a kid when I played it, I was like 20.

Are you fucking high that the Crystarium and Sphere Grid were the same thing to you? Yes, the Sphere Grid wasn't quite as free as it looked, but it wasn't just one single linear progression. My first play through, I dunno what the fuck happened to Tidus but he ended up somewhere else entirely and never learned any of the Time Mage crap he's supposed to.

Try doing that in FFXIII.
>>
Believe it or not, the Metro series really made me feel like I was going on an adventure. Something about the first game where you start out as just some headstrong kid wanting to save his home and traveling into fucking hell to get it done. It was really appealing to me. The second one was great as well, I just liked all the detail put into the environments and how it was a linear game, but because of the setting (metro tunnels) it still felt like you were exploring.
>>
>>261973463
>Same thing
The crystarium was just another corridor until later on the game where everyone gets all the jobs, but that was just pointless since if someone's been a mage for the whole game, you not going to start putting making them physical at that point in the game. The sphere grid at least gave you the illusion of choice, even though if you didn't just follow the path you were put on for that character you'd be fucked.
