To think I was the most devout western vidya player ever since I was a kid. Nintendo was the exception and I played the shit out of their games, but my focus was always on western vidya, especially RPG's. The free-flowing nature of them felt amazing.
Now a days I'm learning Japanese and while I still don't quite enjoy JRPG's I'm getting more of a feel for them, and my interest in Japanese vidya has grown substantially.

These journalists, Quinn, Grayson, etc. are fucking kids. They aren't masterminds, but they think they are. Games Journalism, and even Gaming is still in it's infancy. And all of these guys are involved in Indie Gaming, which is a subculture of a subculture. They are not outwitting us, there isn't some scary conspiracy to be afraid of. There's just a bunch of kids in a tiny pond all fucking each other and giving each other hands up in the industry.
They are shitty people, but they aren't the fucking CIA or the KGB. Their retreats, their PR firms are just a back-patting way of feeling more important amongst themselves, and their "agenda" is, in all reality, not gaining any ground. They've made a serious mistake, though, even if it seems like more "articles" are being published about "misogynerds."
They generalized all gamers as misogynistic man-children. But the mainstream gamer doesn't even know this shit is going on. The mainstream gamer didn't play Depression Quest or Gone Home, or even Stanley Parable. The mainstream gamer grew up on zelda and mario, or if very young, CoD and Halo. The mainstream gamer is a moderate, which knows no gender or race bounds. The mainstream gamer these days most likely plays LoL and Hearthstone, Dota and/or one of a thousand free to play MMOs. There are thousands of asian women, men, transsexuals who don't even give a shit about the whining of a few corrupt hipsters.
Keep on digging these assholes a career grave, but remember, in the end this too shall pass. Gamers have forever been called names and taunted by bullies, but bullies do not represent most of the world.
