No, even my brother and friends who are complete casual scum and only play for fun didn't like brawl. The could not point a finger at what exactly is wrong with brawl and why the dont like it as much, but they knew something was wrong.
I explained them that "the running speed does not carry over to the momentum of your jumps" and how brawl is slower, tripping was a part of it being shit, too. They agreed and told me somethng like "so thats what it was!" They didn't ask why so SOmany key features and movement options got removed though.
