Another thing, Nintendo LOVES the no fun approach. They streamline everything so much, and try so hard to stay "professional", taking all soul out of their games. Going by the picture in the OP, if the game follows a similar style, it may very likely be lacking in colours. It will probably have few colours, and be afraid of using the sharper colours. It will look like a comic. There is also the fact that whiteish graphics have been common on the Wii U regardless of earlier traditions for the franchise.
The "no fun allowed" thing is refering more to the general design and feeling of the game than only the graphics, and that's a really big thing in Donkey Kong Country Returns. The world follows a sterile NSMB layout, all characters and jokes are removed, and everything is streamlined into a single playable character, with even the animal helpers removed. DKCR is an extremely barebones game, it lacks anything that gives an impression that the developers were having fun. All "fun" things feels scripted, like it was written in the initial design document that it should be there, there is no spontaneity to it.

No, I'm entirely serious and I agree with you 100%. I think Retro Dong looked very plastic and lacked a lot of the charm of the original games. Also the platforming felt very tedious and annoying compared to the originals. How do you even fuck this up in a game that's solely about platforming?
I played it for about 6 hours before I put it away and then came back to it a couple of months later to give it another try, but it felt just as shit.

It's not a matter of simply wanting and asking for it. There has to be actual support. If people honestly want this, they can't just tell Nintendo they want it. They need to be willing to back it up, to fund it, to help get the word out, etc.
If Nintendo sees that people are truly this dedicated and willing to make it happen that the people themselves are the ones working for it, it could become real. Hell, maybe someone can start making the game and sell it to Nintendo.
