I'm surprised this is getting so much attention, I thought this was generally acknowledged by most people on here. While the 90's weren't the pizza and vidya-fueled paradise some people make them out to be, they were a much more optimistic time in comparison to the 2000's. The rise of the internet and the media's tendency to report negative news along with widespread feelings of self-doubt have allowed this cynicism to rise in the 00's and be controlled in the 10's. This entire past month has been a perfect example; controversies, riots both in Ferguson and on the web, and you can't load up a new page without hearing about someone getting killed by the police or ISIS or a kid getting run over. People are growing hopeless and depressed from everything, which is exactly why the SJW movement is going to blow itself up; it just makes people feel even worse.
Some people just try to get away from it by browsing forums all day while donating hundreds of dollars to their favorite Twitch streams and padding out their social media accounts, but it can only fill the void so much.

To the german guy crying over the confidence lost in America... Well... Half of the countries of Europe (and their people), including Spain, think you guys, as the technical grandmasters of Europe, are effectively doing the following:
1. Enforcing policies which constrain a country's natural, national economy (ie: you don't allow to fish more than these many fish, or to harvest more than this much wine, or dig more than this much metals), so as to not "upset the balance" of the European Union.
2. Because of the industrial and productive shifts caused by this, countries are more dependant than ever on trade and commerce with the rest of Europe, and have less resources available to fend for themselves. They also have to pay extra taxes to "Europe" to maintain their European Union Member status. This kind of "ties" all the countries to Germany, which is currently the king of the hill country here.
3. After the global crisis, countries with less resources became in debt (in part because our own politicians' incompetence to cope with the new economical constraints), and get EVEN MORE dependant on you guys. Many people who admired Germany in my country now hate your guts, and like this, in many other countries
The results? Extreme right wing parties gaining power in England and France. Flemish anti-european separatists winning elections in Belgium. Nazis in Greece gaining power, and a long etc.
We had a civil war 80 years ago and a very humilliating period with Franco's dictatorship. Technology wants to be able to grow exponentially, but its limited by human capacity for comprehension. Once stuff becomes to complicated for a person to grasp in a reasonable amount of time, the ability for it to continue growing that way diminishes. Lots of people were behind all the bullshit that happened through Bush's presidency. He definitely caused some problems himself, but to put all the blame on him is retarded. Problem is that, while Bush is now unable to run again, a lot of the other people are still in office, and Obama's bad in a whole different way.
I think the reason people are so cynical nowadays are because they see all these problems, but they know there's very little, if anything, they can do to fix them. We're spiraling to a major catastrophe, and those that can help are too busy doing something else.
