The standards of Pixiv are similarly low. Usually if something manages to catch the attention of a non-Japanese poster, it's probably because it was of very high quality, which leads to most westerners completely ignoring the mountain of garbage pixiv has to offer.
I imagine other countries might have a similar relationship with dA; they pay attention to the good artists who post there, but completely ignore the trash that people here get so obsessed over.

How do you learn how to draw people/characters/humans (w/e the correct term is in this context), in different positions relative to the viewer looking at the page? like if they're facing (including there body positioning) 3oclock or 7" or 11" oclock?
I'm an absolute babby at the moment, like preschool tier at drawing, I want to get better and am going to start reading stuff to get better, It's just that I've always wondered this. I can only 'draw' people facing perfectly 6" back at the viewer", and pretty terribling.
I mean, do you look at pictures and draw what positioning you see or can you 'see' it in you head then translate that to paper? if so that sounds like magic to me and something I can even imagine doing ;_;

Study human bodies. Just look at pictures of naked people. Take up weight lifting so you know how muscles work.
It's pretty simple once you've spent a little time with it.
Starting out, it's fine to use a reference to get a pose, but with enough consistent, proper practice, you'll do it in your head.

true, the understanding of the mechanics is what I'm getting at. loomis' stuff is great in breaking down the form, like how it shows the pectorals as a sort of cape that fits over the torso. thinking in terms of how and why everything does what it does can really expedite your learning. same with cooking. instead of learning measurements and recipes you learn how things interact.
