Why? Because Singles and Doubles are completely different? Pachirisu was a better choice for his team than Amoongus, reposting from /vp/
Basically he wanted a mon to take on Amoonguss' role alongside with MGyarados, so he went for Pachirisu, since everybody would be prepared for Amoonguss' anyway, but Pachirisu brings a few more twists to the table:
- Electric immunity+HP recovery instead of just resist (very useful considering the electricbait that non-mega Gyara is)
- Follow me NOT getting bypassed by Grass types and safety goggles (which is the downside of Rage Pwoder)
- Nuzzle bypassing taunt and allowing for speed control (which has proven itself useful, especially against scarftar), in itself a somewhat unexpected thing in the current VGC14 meta (a trick room gengar got a surprise win in seniors, too)
- superfang being a good offensive option on an otherwise defensive mon. Amoonguss only does something with giga drain and/or sludge bomb on supereffective hits, but superfang actually hits quite well all things considered, plus it allows pachirisu to not just be dead weight if it doesn't need to do support, but actually put some offensive presence on the field due to that (so you can't just ignore him)
- the only thing that really scares a danced MGyara is priority brave bird from talonflame, really. Amoonguss is weak to that, Pachirisu brings a resist to the table.
And that's why Pachirisu was an overall superior choice over Amoonguss in his team.

They have a few "clauses" or banlists of things that make the game overly RNG-y (evasion stuff like Double Team) or overly centered around one pokemon (Arceus). Other than that, they tend to look at different teams and different strategies and see which ones work out the best.

VGC is a very different beast from OU. Doubles requires entirely different strategies, and although many of the same pokemon are used (garchomp, spooky sword, etc.), many other new pokemon are viable.

Why the fuck not? It worked.
It's not like you're using it for attacks. It has a quick Follow Me which can redirect attacks. This one has Volt Absorb, so when it used Follow Me and the enemy uses an Electric move it'll heal it. Use this in pair with Gyarados (only weak to electric) and you have a terrific pair with Pachi healing up on peoples ignorance.
