So the Hearts of Iron IV beta is being released by Paradox if you refer 20 people and even then you only get put into a raffle.Thoughts on this?

Did they even fix 3? It had some gamebreaking bugs from release, and they still focused on DLC like models instead of nato bricks. So i dropped that shit. It did have potential though, bugged out of the ass aside.

I have a mod for it that streamlines it and makes nations act a bit more historically (in vanilla I found that the AI never performed operation torch or husky, and the americans just pile into france at some point). I can't tell you how much of a relief it is to have the artillery,AT and AA support rolled into one brigade rather than having to choose between them for dumb reasons.

To be fair, HoI 2 and 3 unit tech levels were precisely the same for every single nation, just with different names.
4 seems to be more specialized towards each nation.

EU 2 is literally EU 1 but with vast improvements, same with HoI 2 and HoI 1.
That said, EU 2 is still greatly outdated now. HoI 2 is still pretty good with the expansions.
HoI 2 also has a dozens of "remake/remastered/etc" versions.

The HoI3 tech system was a bit bloated, and lacked the feeling of achievement that the HoI2 (AoD/DH) tech system has.
HoI4 seems be more structured, and those armored techs gives you a bigger feeling of what equipment you're actually researching.

I dunno, I'd consider the Europa series to be more of an entry step. I never really felt like there was a whole lot going on there, other then painting the map your color.
CK2 is more basic then stuff like HoI or Vicky2, but I feel like there's more going on than in EU4 since there's managing relationships and plots and all sorts of stuff not just on the nation level. Working my way up from Count to Emperor and keeping that shit together always feels a lot more interesting then trying to conquer everything in EU.

I'd say because they're not all equally complex. For someone that has zero experience with a grand strategy game, it would be a lot easier to get them going in a game of EU4 where you're mostly managing money, manpower, and relationships, compared to a game like Vicky2 which has a fucking billion tiny little widgets you're keeping track of so that your nation keeps rolling along smoothly. If you understand the basics of one game, that's less to explain if they then try to move on to other games.
Yeah a lot of things you need to know to play CK2 won't transfer over to HoI3, but it's more the idea of getting used to keeping more and more plates spinning at once.
