It's all making sense now.
When typing your fucking left hand rests on ASDF+spacebar. If you move that whole fucking thing over one key then you end up with the same natural position but resting on CAPSLOCK+ASD+spacebar. W is then included in the four directional keys instead of X because it's easier to move your middle finger up a row than it is to move it down a row. That's why the letters in the bottom most row on a QWERTY keyboard are the least frequently used letters in the English language, they're a little more awkward to reach and don't get used as often, but this is beside the point. W is easier to reach. So no you have CAPSLOCK+WASD+Spacebar as the default position. Resting your pinky on SHIFT seems natural too, but then reaching down to Ctrl becomes far, far more awkward than it needs to be. Maybe this doesn't happen to handlets, by my fucking pinky starts curling into my palm by the time it gets to Ctrl and rather than a pressing motion I end up using the opposite motion, as though I were trying to extend my pinky. Regardless of the individual experiences the Ctrl key is still far out of the way. Moving the pinky default from Shift to CAPSLOCK means that now Shift takes up the responsibility of Ctrl, and CAPS takes up the responsibilities of shift, and you still have Tab to take up whatever cap may have been if anything. I don't know how ot explain this in any fucking simpler terms.
