Don't worry, your ass backwards chinkophiles will not stop living in the '80s until they go bankrupt, they lost their last braincells when we nuked them, so they cannot adapt with the time.

Yeah, this. I'm sick of the few mobile objects present, if any, having either simpler, or worst of all, no shadows at all. Until we can get good, fully dynamic lighting, graphics aren't good enough.

I'm also tired of maps that are mostly large outdoors areas always having craptastic lighting in interiors, such as buildings or caves.
>>
>>257090217
As far i remember, Cryengine 3 does everything realtime.

There's no "bake button".

Riding that bike from left to right for hours on end, son? How's your dumbed down story mode of an already toddler-centric game, and lack of any sort of endgame?

You're going to have to wait until smartphones kill consoles off in 20 years for that to happen, so they can finally stop holding back the home videogames industry.
>>
>>257090504
Walking on the linear prescripted corridor with invisible bounding box/death zones while headshot knees and have only one weapon with different firing rates, son? How's your dumbed down gameplay of an already teen-centric game, and lack of any sort of actual skill requeriment?

W-well at least you can still watch the awesome bromance cutscenes...
>>
>>257089992
Imagine if a single pokemon game made by a single person sold 60 million copies.

Alas, your favourite game has to settle with 10-15 million sales figures only, with a full studio working on it fulltime. Shame it's not as profitable as some other games.

Better luck next time pal, chin up.

I like how you described any of that as if it were worse than bike riding simulator. Well, you tried.
>>
>>257091079
Yup, a game your nihon overlords would drool over to get their hands on. It would maybe save them from bankruptcy, too.
>>
>>257090397
I've heard similar claims from both CryEngine 3 and Unreal Engine 4, but without enough facts for my liking. For example, what sort of processing load those advanced fully dynamic bounced, etc lighting systems take. Also, both claim to be able to handle huge and/or unlimited amounts of point lights, but can that really be? And can they work with the cool magical totally dynamic skylight stuff?

I mean, I'd LOVE to believe that's all true, but I can't help but notice that the actual lighting in actual games is soooo far from that. And technology doesn't usually jump that far all at once.
>>
>>257091106
Well, people without any friends to battle against and see whats all the fuss of the actual strategy and mind reading etc etc etc.. will indeed play just a lame game.

Its still not a uberrealistic game and its still raping the realistic ones like no other.
And influencing the whole game industry to get away from the boring photorealism.

So still a win in my book.
>>
Just give me subsurface scattering jesus christ.
>>
>>257091217
In my oppinion, its not computing power that is lacking, but its just the speed the R&D moves.

The challenge is getting harder and harder, and being stuck on DX9 and slow consoles for too long didnt helped much.
>>
It's pretty funny when you think about it, you know what we need now? It's not super advanced shaders, it's not high detail textures. It's megatextures.

>>
>>257091442
Pro: Not even trying to be realistic
Con: Everything's made of cubes

Result: Meh

For a game to truly excite me with its visuals, it needs to be both technically advanced AND very stylized. I want to see cartoony colorful designs utilized with all the bells and whistles.
>>
>>257091961

>>257091639
We need games. Actual games instead of engine demo.

I missed crysis. It was a game before a tech demo. There was an actual gameplay under the whole graphic thing.

For those retarded enough this isn't in game, it's just a render that someones done. done in either maya or 3dsmax.

So you're saying the only reason actual released games don't show anywhere near that lighting capability is just that the developers are slow or stuck with old engines? That seems hard to believe in these days of endless graphical arms races, I'd think they'd be all over that stuff if they could be. It only makes sense if all that fancy lighting stuff is past what consoles can do, and consoles really and truly are holding PC gaming back.

In any case, give me one actual playable demo showing off all those fancy lighting capabilities that runs on my roughly half-year-old PC, preferably in a reasonably large environment, and I'd be sold. Figuratively and potentially literally. Until then, I'm suspicious of those claims.

I'm saying I want a game that's not even close to realistic that uses the latest lighting, high poly counts, normal maps, the whole shooting match. I'm sick of high-end graphics only being used for realism, stylized stuff could use it all just as much. And to be clear, I don't hate cel shading, but it isn't what I ideally want either.

Basically, I want to see actual gameplay that looks close to illustrations like this, for a random example. Or like the super cool promo art from old Capcom games, or old Square games. I want to see games looking now like the game artists from the good old days could only draw for covers and design inspiration. They finally could come close to that, if the technology were used for anything but more realism.
>>
>>257093839
Well, the illustration would need a "super advanced cartoon shading" to look exactly like that, and we would be talking about "the lastest other shit" to pull that off.

Don't worry anon, better graphics just means cooler looking mushroom houses.

Too bad no one buys mushroom house games and it's much easier to just copy something boring and plain like every day life instead of making anything that actually requires creativity.

>>257095161
Actually a lot of people do buy "mushroom house games".... when done exactly right.

A mario game on a good platform will always sell ridiculously well, like over 10 million... but a mario clone that is off by a inch on marketing or on gameplay or anything will sell close to nil.

Now boring ultrarealistic graphical games always sells around 2-3 mil if look good enough due the graphic whores.

The only quality they require is visible at plain sight and there is no bet whatsoever and is much safer.

Depends on the angle. If a game is in 1st person, it would be kinda weird to see lens flare, for example, since you're supposed to look through the eyes of the character you control.

For 3rd person or top-down games, yeah, in that case you look through a camera basically.
