I have yet to hear any real proof that Ridley is more likely than any other character. All of the things I hear from people are just things that suggest he's a candidate, not that he's likely to be playable.

Every stage with a hazard has had it directly shown, explicitly named, and described. Be it boss hazard or otherwise. EXCEPT for Pyrosphere, which we've known about for an entire year now and all we've gotten is a shadow, some jerky movements, and an offhand "Other boss characters" at the very end of a segment about Yellow Devil. And look how fast and furiously Sakurai has been deconfirming characters without a hint of teasing or rusing. If Ridley wasn't playable, why hasn't he just said it yet?
