I believe at the time those games were released, they were released to exactly the right amount of acclaim. They aren't overrated, you just listen to people who can't form opinions and spew nonsense. Games as a medium are very quickly evolving so it makes sense that yesterday's classics don't stack up to today's standards. There is no holy trinity of video games because games are constantly changing and the medium is evolving as technology evolves.
Film and music don't suffer from this because the technology required to enable them as imaginative outlets reached maturity a long time ago. Video games haven't yet reached the technology barrier-- creativity in games are always held back by current technology. Until we hit the point where that is no longer the case, there cannot be a set if 'timeless games'. At some point, any game you thought was excellent will be considered overrated and shit compared to modern titles.
