Saving the world is not a bad motive, whether it's an INTERESTING motive is a little more up to debate. Obviously a personal story like Planescape Torment tend to interest audiences a bit more.

Stories where time travellers get stuck in loops trying to save loved ones always get me. Situations involving loved ones are kinda easy I guess but they're usually pretty agreeable motivations. Situations where bad guys fuck loads of people over just to save their precious waifu really annoy me though.
Is there any games where a character goes on a quest just because it's something to do as like a hobby?
OP here. I should've known not to post a thread like this when the americlaps are awake. I guess it's a topic that requires more maturity than night time /v/ possesses to discuss adult concepts such as character motivation.
Anyway, my point wasn't that saving the world is a bad thing as long as it's a by product of your own personal journey. If saving the world is what you need to do to achieve your own goal then that's fine, but if it's your only purpose in the story and the characters motivation is solely based on saving the world then it's weak writing meant for children who still get excited over Naruto and his "believe it!" bullshit.
The world is going to be destroyed. However, it won't happen until after the good guys have died of old age. To save it in the future, action must be taken now. Is this good enough motivation OP?
